SANTA FE Governor Susana Martinez announced today that she has signed an executive order rescinding sanctuary status for illegal immigrants who commit crimes in New Mexico while protecting victims and witnesses of criminal acts. The order signed by Governor Martinez directs law enforcement officers to inquire about the immigration status of those who are arrested for committing crimes.
This order takes the handcuffs off of New Mexicos law enforcement officers in their mission to keep our communities safe, said Governor Martinez. The criminal justice system should have the authority to determine the immigration status of all criminals, regardless of race or ethnicity, and report illegal immigrants who commit crimes to federal authorities. Meanwhile, it is important that we safeguard the ability of victims and witnesses to report crimes to law enforcement officers without fear of repercussion.

They will say people are calling her an Uncle Tom... er Auntie Tom.... whatever will work...
“I hope they can raise a generation of kids who havent witnessed any violence. If they can do that, they will be okay.”
The young people have determined that this was their grandparents’ war, and have started interacting (and intermarrying) as never before. They’ve realized they have a lot more in common with each other than they do with many other people in this world, and will never go back to what had been. Any such activities are done by splinter groups on both sides, with almost no popular support. As a Catholic I’m wary of the intermarriage; as a human I’d prefer it to the violence.
>>No Dem politicians have been as brutal with either of those women as they were with GWB; there is too much risk for them in that.<<
Why should they risk anything? The media lapdogs are perfectly happy to do the nastiness, while Rove, Perino and Krauthammer join in.
You’re right, but they need an audience and the SNL/Jon Stewart crowd doesn’t cut it. The problem with appealing to the lowest common denominator is that they often don’t participate politically (voting or giving).
>>As Slim pointed out on a thread the other day, NM has 400 years of families with Hispanic names and they don’t much like illegals.
On that note, see “The True History of the Southwest, 101” towards the bottom of my FR home page, courtesy of Travis McGee. Go to the end then page up a few times, looking for that title in boldface.
Hallelujah.
“The young people have determined that this was their grandparents war, and have started interacting (and intermarrying) as never before.”
That is great news! It means that more people will be more tolerant and understanding of the “other” side as they have never before. There is hope that the violence won’t escalate in the future!
“As a Catholic Im wary of the intermarriage; as a human Id prefer it to the violence.”
I can understand your reluctance, and also understand your wisdom WRT violence.
Just so you know, I’m a Southern Baptist and have been married to a Catholic for over 40 years. Our daughter was Baptized Catholic, though she is now more Baptist than anything. We are all, Catholics and Baptists, Christians. That’s the ultimate test.
I think it has less to do with tolerance than with looking at the broader world and realizing that they have have more in common with each other than with the melting pot that has become the UK. Britain can’t support the Protestants the way they had when the Northern Ireland economy was roaring decades ago, and at this point would love to just leave the place altogether; threats from the Protestants they encouraged to settle there hundreds of years ago prevent them from being abandoned by Britain. The Catholic birthrate will give them what bullets & bombs couldn’t, and both sides are coming to terms with that. In any case, the fighting has been over for years, and won’t be back.
-———Oh its on everywhere now-——
My question what is “it” ?
Does this executive order not accomplish pretty much the same results as the Arizona law that was struck down by a federal judge?
Further can a federal ‘judge nullify a Governor’s executive order?
All of which means is this not a more bullet proof procedure to catch illegals than legislation at the state level?
I am so happy to hear that! Such a beautiful country, with such wonderful people, shouldn’t be embroiled with hatred.
You’ve given me hope...thank you. ;o)
You’re welcome; it seems to be going well, and should from now on.
