Spotsylvania, Va., high school freshman Andrew Mikel has been suspended for the school year and has been placed in a "diversion program" by police for blowing soft plastic pellets through a pen at three classmates.
"I am currently working with the Rutherford Institute, fighting the insane madness of our local school administration and board," wrote the boy's father, also named Andrew Mikel, to WND.
"In early December, my son shot what amounts to a spitwad. They classified the spit wad as a weapon, expelled my son from school the rest of the year, filed assault charges on him with the sheriff's department, mandated that he take 'substance-abuse counseling' and 'anger-management counseling' and must do 24 hours of community service."
Originally suspended for 10 days after the Dec. 10 incident, Andrew later was suspended for the balance of the school year following a Dec. 21 hearing before the Spotsylvania County school board. His criminal charges will be expunged if he completes the diversion program for first-time offenders.
"The school board feels that they gave the child and his father a fair hearing and handled the situation appropriately," said Mark Cole, a Spotsylvania delegate to the Virginia general assembly. He intervened with the school board and sheriff's department on the boy's behalf. "They said that if the child hit someone in the eye it could have damaged their eye. They suspended the child for the rest of the school year, which I think is excessive."

"We were able to present our side, that the punishment doesn't fit the student code of conduct," said Mikel's legal counsel, Andrew Flusche. "In my opinion they have shoehorned in this definition of weapon that triggers harsher punishment."

Next they’ll be expelling them for farting citing “unauthorized release of noxious fumes”
Hell, I would have been locked up for life as a threat to all mankind under such insanely stupid rules as that. Insanity has a new name. Education.

This ranks with “having sex with animals” as an indication of when someone or something has hit rock bottom. In this case, it’s the public school system. They can only go up from here.

But I digress. :-) I decided last night it was the original domestic terrorist song and soon will be outlawed by Big Sis & the Gang. So sing it while you can.
In the late 1930's, the chemistry lab on the third floor of my high school emitted enough H2S that we thought everyone in the school was farting.
The most potent weapon we had in HS was the rubber band. You could fire spitwads or paper clips very accurately with an innocuous rubber band. Guess by today's rules, I would have spent all my time in diversion. Or jail.
In Oklahoma a 1st Grader was suspended for forming his hand into the shape of a gun and pretending to shoot it...
I kid you not.
This kind of madness has terrible consequences. My son is in the Army with a guy who cannot get security clearance because of a felonious assault. Sounds terrible right? Well the assault was a water balloon!

If only there were spitwad control.
Life would be worth living without stupid public school administrators. All the parents at this school should be up in arms about this. If it can happen to this kid, it can happen to any kid. This kid is now homeschooling. He’s much better off. Guess what? Public schools aren’t worth the grief they put their students through or the money they extort in the form of taxes from the general public.
School administrators are just looking after themselves. It’s about them, not the students.
Did this story say four different government agencies are involved in this? What a waste of taxpayers’ money. Some kid blows some fluff through a tube and it’s time to call Homeland Security. The cops should be embarrassed. Everyone involved should be embarrassed. They look like jerks.
What the public schools are going to find out very fast is that they are becoming obsolete. With today’s technology, students really don’t need them anymore, and more parents are now open to different educational venues, and my bet is they are certainly not going to jeopardize their kids’ futures by sending them to PC, “let me cover my ass even if it hurts this kid” public schools.
Screw ‘em. They’re obsolete and dangerous to kids’ futures and well being. Screw ‘em.
