Dates:

On February 1st, Khomeni returned to Iran.

February 4th commemorates the establishment of the PLO.

Dates and numbers matter.

The 1928 (Khalifa) movement started, after the Ottomans fell in 1923, in March of 1928. There are some accounts that have Ali, the 4th Caliph (last of the ‘Rightly-Guided’ and the source of the split between Sunni & Shia) being murdered in 661 on January 24. (This date is disputed).

However, that Tunisian man performed self-immolation on Dec. 17th, 2010—Ashura having been on Dec. 16th in 2010. (Shah’sse, wah’sse) (Ashura is the holiday that men & boys dress in white and parade through the streets cutting themselves up.)

At 1am my time I watch Global One on CNN, takes abit getting used to the British chips talking centimeters and such but they do good news.

Another poster(s) made some comments that we are having another British invasion, more and more talking heads, actors and such are British, I guess America needs a different slant of English to wake them up and get their attention?

Granted the Brits DO make English sound like...better (elite?)English it just kinda rubs me the wrong way.

Just heard on BBC that the King of Jordan is rumored to have dismissed his government and will set up a new one.

Yikes.

I was reading on another forum that claims Google and Twitter have worked out a voice to text to e-mail conversion that bypasses the ISPs in Egypt, from where I saw it though I suspect its just feel good propaganda.

Actually it’s been widely reported that Google has set up a way to get tweets out via cell phone. It’s true.

It’s probably more about ratings. They have higher ratings doing what they normally do (sleighting foreign events).

It’s a very smart pre-emptive move on his part- this way he can be ahead of the curve and not see Jordan go through this nightmare. Although who knows what’s ahead for any of these countries..

A sign of weakness. It won't be enough for the jackals.

Good Morning, Mom, and everybody...

Just into my first cuppa, and catching up as best I can - ran across this think-piece that, I think, pretty much echoes something we’ve been discussing here....

Thinking prudently about Egypt is not ‘fear mongering’

Thinking prudently about Egypt is not ‘fear mongering’

Before there was Lenin, there was Karensky.

Before there was Hitler, there was Von Papen.

Before there were Soviet satellites in Eastern Europe, there were “provisional coalition governments” where Communists were not a majority.

Before there were the Sandinistas, there was a “Unity government” in Nicaragua.

Before there were radical Islamists in Tehran, there was a “moderate” Islamic government headed up by President Banisadr.

The point is simple; men with guns who are ruthless enough and determined enough can emerge from chaotic political situations to rule.

I am sick to death of being told by the left that bringing up the possibility - not the certainty, or even the probability - that the radical, anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-Semitic Muslim Brotherhood can emerge from the chaos in Egypt and takeover the government is fear mongering or ignorant. It is neither. It is something we conservatives take pride in - being prudent.

You can bet the Obama administration is losing sleep over the possibility. The catastrophe for the world if those Nazi-inspired thugs end up muscling out sheep like El Baradei in any sort of “Unity Government” is literally to horrible to contemplate. It would almost certainly mean an abrogation of the Camp David Accords which would increase the chances of war between Israel and Egypt significantly (There has already been discussion in the Israeli press of moving back into the Sinai if the treaty were held in abeyance.)

I would say to my friends on the left, take off the blinders and acknowledge the world as it is. Any government that includes the Brotherhood will be at risk of being overthrown. History has shown us how easy it is. Not to address the possibility is rash and, dare I say, imprudent.

Arguably CNN does appear to have more reporters camped out in the Middle east.

I am just tired of Fox being too much into non-news.

Authoritarian governments start stockpiling food to fight public anger
The Telegraph (UK) ^ | 2/1/11 | Ben Farmer

Posted on Tuesday, February 01, 2011 4:47:53 AM by Daisyjane69

Commodities traders have warned they are seeing the first signs of panic buying from states concerned about the political implications of rising prices for staple crops.

However, the tactic risks simply further pushing up prices, analysts have warned, pushing a spiral of food inflation.

Governments in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa have recently made large food purchases on the open market in the wake of unrest in Tunisia which deposed president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.

Resentment at food shortages and high prices, as well as repression and corruption, drove the popular uprising which swept away his government.

Youths reportedly chanted “bring us sugar!” in the demonstrations which toppled his regime.

More on Jordan: From Foxnews.com

The king has asked his former ex-military adviser Marouf Bakhit to form a new cabinet, an official told Reuters.

The official also told Reuters that King Abdullah has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Samir Rifai.

Oh man...

To think- government regulations started this all. The fellow who set himself afire in Tunisia after not being allowed to sell his wares on the street because he didn’t have the proper permits.

So much to digest and to understand...I find myself trying to mentally sift through it and then like waking up and realizing it wasn’t a bad dream- I think of Israel who is in the most precarious position I can remember.

A fascinating back story on how Bush and Rice were manipulated by Mubarak- though Matt Latimer really should STFU. Interesting comments after the piece too..
