Wife of Slain St Petersburg Officer Calls into Schnitt Show
Todd Schnitt Show (www.schnittshow.com) ^ | Today | Self

Posted on 01/27/2011 4:33:36 PM PST by time4good

Sorry if this is a repost, wrongly posted, etc. Still at work and ran out for dinner and heard Schnitt describing the interview he did with the wife of a slain St Petersburg officer this morning on his MJ show. Schnitt said the volume of emails he got from LEOs described it as the most if not one of the most moving things they had ever heard on radio describing her husband's job as a police officer, what she's going through, what he had to go through. I thought it worth to post, for many here on FR that are in Law Enforcement, who might have missed this in the news cycle as well as in the past week of the number of slain officers in Florida, NJ and other places.

TOPICS: Crime/Corruption; Culture/Society; News/Current Events; US: Florida
KEYWORDS: leo; police; vanity
Schnitt running it again at top of 8:00PM hour (here in South Florida on 1290AM)

A police officer here in my little Oregon coastal town was gutshot last Sunday night during a "routine" traffic stop. Thankfully, though still listed in critical condition, he will survive. He almost didn't make it, nearly bled out from his wounds.

The perp is still at large after a high-speed police chase down coastal Highway 101, where he abandoned his vehicle after hitting spike strips.

There has been a spate of cop killings, I saw a promo for a special report on TV questioning whether it was just random. I didn’t get to see the report.

I have been a donor to charities that raise money for the widows and orphans of fallen LEOs since I became of age. I think I will redouble my efforts going forward.

For your purposes, random or not isn't relevant. As for your mental impression of reality, two points: truly random events tend to clump; the "year of the shark attacks" was media-created fiction.

No, he's a white guy, 43 years old. Lives on Sauvie Island near Portland. Supposedly he's been seriously weirding out over the past few months.

He hasn't actually gotten away. There are numerous beachfront vacation homes in Waldport that are unoccupied right now. The police have already checked out 250 of them. He may still be hiding out in one. He'd have food, water, etc. Residents in the area are very jittery, and are arming themselves.

There's also some speculation that he might've just walked into the Pacific Ocean. If so, his body may eventually wash up on the beach, or maybe not.

Actually the way I interpreted the promo for “random or not” was conspiratorially. That is to say some clandestine group conspired to shoot cops. My second thought was that of copy-cat, e.g. one shooting inspires another. Neither of which would be truly random. But yes, I do agree, the universe is full of randomness to which we impart coincidence or purpose e.g. the flipping of a coin 1 million times might include a subset series of 50 consecutive landings on heads, and if you only looked at a grouping of 70 flips which included those 50 you might believe there was some imbalance in the design of the coin, or the flip etc...

I heard it Thursday on my drive home.
She is an amazing woman, and so was her husband.

Pray for them.
