It's bad enough that Rep. Paul Ryan has to follow President Obama. Now the brainy Wisconsin congressman tapped to give the official Republican response to the State of the Union address must also compete for attention with Tea Party star Michele Bachmann.
Bachmann, a third-term Minnesota congresswoman renowned for lobbing rhetorical bombs at her opponents, plans to rebut the president's address in an online broadcast at the Tea Party Express website Tuesday night.
While Ryan's remarks will be carried by all the networks and cable news outlets as they happen, television news outlets have agreed to share a camera to record Bachmann's comments -- and some could choose to air them live.

Palin and Bachmann have the same ideals and are not in competition. Both realize the urgency and seriousness of what Obama and his progressives are doing to our country.
Bachmann is set up right now to make a move. Palin is not. So please let's not play primary infighting until we know who is running. Both ladies have my support; one WAS more Alinskyized than the other but it is clear Bachmann will be attacked by even the GOP as well so who cares which one gets on the ticket first.

What a sad display of impotence and self-importance in one place .. the speech will be so much regurgitated screen babble and platitudes,, this thing has become like a broken record of late..

ALSO:Sadly it looks like Rubio is going towards the middle (had lunch with McCain and Graham democrats?) and they are playing PC on the big dog and pony act night.
Historically, the opposition party is given time for an SOTU rebuttal. Like it or not, the opposition party is the GOP, and they chose Ryan to speak for them. So he does deserve to give that rebuttal uninterrupted and without interference from a caucus related to the party. Michelle is invited onto tv and radio shows all the time. She has plenty of opportunity to give her views.
The “tea party’ is not an organized, structured political party with any elected leaders. There is a Tea Party Caucus in the Congress; there are various and sundry tea party organizations across the country. That does not put the movement or caucus in the league of the two major political parties. Should we next have a rebuttal by the Congressional Black Caucus when next we have a Republican president? How far shall we carry this thing?
I have donated to Bachmann before but I really don’t appreciate her pulling this stunt. It appears entirely too self-serving. Frankly, I don’t want the ‘tea party’ to have a face. It’s too big for that, and by personalizing it into Michelle Bachmann or anyone else dilutes its effectiveness.
Funny, I like Palin more than Bachmann. Both strong women though.
I like Ryan and think he’ll do fine.
Consider Bachmann’s comments a bayonet up the RINO’s butts to assure them that we’re watching.
No problem from me with two responses.
Very few will pay any attention to Ryan let alone Bachmann.
Why does Fox think they have a dog in this fight? Very strange. Bachman isn’t newsworthy enough to carry her rebuttal, but she IS newsworthy enough to attack for her temerity.
Frankly, let’s hope that BOTH Ryan AND Bachman give good speeches. Let’s hope they tear Obama’s empty lies to shreds.

I was a Fred fan back in the day; I liked him because he seemed a lot more grown up and practical than the other pack of clowns in the race. Never had that slavish devotion, though....
For me, this is a good sign of "healthy debate".
Oh man, I'd forgotten that. I thought the Fred idea was interesting, til I saw him and realized he was twenty years older than what I had pictured in my mind. I had him pegged pretty early on for what he turned out to be, and took some heat for it. Old, tired, and unmotivated. Of course, Fredheads said that made him similar to George Washington!

Then why does she feel the need to present a response of her own? I would think that you would do that only when you don't think that the party response adequately presents your positions.
Ryan is going to talk about "Civility," and ask "Can't we all just get along." He is going to show the country that you can get just as much of other people's money from the Republicans, but that we are just plain family-loving patriotic folks, not like those nasty Leftist Democrats.
He might go so far as to talk about opposing "job killing" legislation!

Go, Congresswoman Bachmann! Tell our “bipartisan” Congress how the cow ate the cabbage.
I challenge you to find any person who is unattractive and/or male, who has received anything like the unquestioning devotion heaped upon the likes of Palin, Bachmann, O'Donnell, and a few others.... well, I guess there was Ross Perot....
Nor are you likely to find threads on other politicians, that routinely include flattering pictures of that person, nor comments about how attractive that person is -- expressed, moreover, as something of a recommendation for higher office.
One must also note that there is often a fierce protectiveness about Ms. Palin, especially, that seems oddly placed for a politician who is expected to play hardball ... and I think it's because she's female.
While you're at it, why don't you defend what appears to be your misogynist tendencies?
It's hardly "misogynist" to judge a candidate based on record, achievements, and demonstrated mastery of both issues and ideas. And on those counts, Sarah Palin is not much more impressive than Obama (she just plays to a different choir).
So, how to explain the ardent support given to these women? By this point, it seems appropriate to apply a healthy cynicism about motives; and to be quite honest, it's difficult to imagine that they'd enjoy the same support if they were unattractive.
When you accuse others of viewing women through an exclusively sexual lens, you seem to be projecting.
Just calling it like I see it.
