'Unusual' Bachmann Rebuttal Could Scramble GOP Message on Obama Address
fox ^ | 1/25/11 | staff

It's bad enough that Rep. Paul Ryan has to follow President Obama. Now the brainy Wisconsin congressman tapped to give the official Republican response to the State of the Union address must also compete for attention with Tea Party star Michele Bachmann.

Bachmann, a third-term Minnesota congresswoman renowned for lobbing rhetorical bombs at her opponents, plans to rebut the president's address in an online broadcast at the Tea Party Express website Tuesday night.

While Ryan's remarks will be carried by all the networks and cable news outlets as they happen, television news outlets have agreed to share a camera to record Bachmann's comments -- and some could choose to air them live.

I’m not watching any of it. The SOTU, the official response, or the unofficial rebuttal/response.

From Wikipedia

Ryan was born in 1970. Received BA degree in economics and political science from Miami of Ohio, 1992.

“Ryan worked as an aide to U.S. Senator Bob Kasten beginning in 1992 and as legislative director for Sam Brownback of Kansas from 1995 to 1997. He worked as a speechwriter to “drug czar” William Bennett and to Jack Kemp during his run for the vice presidency.”

“Ryan was first elected to the House in 1998 when two-term incumbent Mark Neumann retired from his seat in order to make an unsuccessful bid for the Senate. Ryan won both a Republican primary over 29-year-old pianist Michael J. Logan of Twin Lakes, and the general election against Democratic opponent Lydia Spottswood.[24] Ryan successfully defended his seat against Democratic challenger Jeffrey C. Thomas in 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006.”

“Ryan defeated Democratic nominee Marge Krupp by a wide margin in the 2008 general election and Ryan defeated both Democratic nominee John Heckenlively and Libertarian nominee Joseph Kexel by a wide margin in the 2010 general election.”

“Ryan married Janna Little, a tax attorney, in December 2001. They live in Janesville with their three children: Elizabeth Anne Ryan, Charles Wilson Ryan, and Samuel Lowery Ryan. He is a practicing Roman Catholic and is a member of St. John Vianney’s Parish.”

Bachmann is doing the right thing.

The GOP in the House is already hinting they'll cave on spending and the debt.

I dunno. Fred-mania, though short-lived, seemed similarly extra-rational. But I see your point.

I began to think of FNC as CNN lite. Now I think of FNC as MSNBC lite.

Not a good path, IMHO

And if she plans to run, that would clearly take votes away from Palin.

You wish.

Michelle is riding on Sarah's coattails.

It ain't the other way around.

I don’t disagree that Bachmann is second banana to Palin. I’m just sayin’ they’d be competing for votes from the same pool. Whatever Bachmann gets would subtract from Palin, imo.

Its bad enough that the Republicans will seat anong the dems, preventing a visual representation of the Nov. election results...

Repubs sitting with RATs at the SOTU have labeled themselves too politically stupid and naive for national office. We are in a target rich environment.

renowned for lobbing rhetorical bombs at her opponents ?

If this writer knows anything about her opponents,, they aren’t exactly lily white..

The media loves picking on Bachmann and Palin including this muttinhead.

Well, have at it. She can handle it.

Yesterday freepers were going off on Cantor for reminding people that Ryan was the official Republican party response, while Bachmann was doing what others have done before giving her own answers.

They were responding to CNN’s attempt to make this into a “fight” between the GOP and the tea party. Now that Bachmann has talked up Ryan and said that there’s no rift here, this is really a good thing, as it means we could have more time on the networks for our side, plus if they run Bachmann they won’t be able to use that time to spin negatively on Ryan.

Hopefully, Bachmann won’t say anything that gets turned into the sound bite of the week and takes another chunk out of the time we have to accomplish things (I hope the same thing about Ryan — the media has been having a field day making the narrative about anything other than saving our country from crushing debt and overreaching government).

I suspect both will do a great job. This won’t be another Bobby Jindal moment. (Confession: I actually liked Bob McDonnell’s response last year, although some others weren’t enthused by it — I think this year’s response will be better).

She had made it clear that the TEA Party express asked her to speak after the SOTU.

She said this is NOT a rebuttal of his speech and it is not taking away from Paul Ryan’s address.

Why is Fox being so snarky? “brainy”

I think history has shown that the Tea Party is "leaderless" until you put an attractive woman in front of it.... and then all the guys in the Tea Party movement start thinking with their little heads...

So guys who support Palin or Bachmann are simply thinking with their little heads?

Pretty damning accusation...go ahead and make your case.

While you're at it, why don't you defend what appears to be your misogynist tendencies?

When you accuse others of viewing women through an exclusively sexual lens, you seem to be projecting.
