GOP Leaders: Bachmann’s Speech Is Not the Party’s Response

GOP Leaders: Bachmann’s Speech Is Not the Party’s Response

By Danny Yadron

Republican congressional leaders say they have no problem with Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann giving a response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night. But they point out she’s not delivering the party’s official reaction

That privilege was given to Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, one of Congress’s biggest budget hawks. House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Mr. Ryan on Friday, and hours later, Ms. Bachmann, a favorite of the tea party crowd, said she would give her own response, live-streamed on the Tea Party Express website.

The Bachmann speech won’t start until Mr. Ryan finishes, a Tea Party Express spokesman said. Still, Ms. Bachmann’s address underscores the division between the Republican establishment and the party’s activist wing.

“We at the Tea Party Express felt that the tea party movement needed a strong voice in Washington, and to know that our views are being heard no matter what President Obama says in his address,” the group’s spokesman, Levi Russell, wrote in an email. At least parts of Ms. Bachmann’s speech will be carried on network television.

Bachmann can say what Ryan won’t.

And that is?

>>>> "What the heck is wrong with you people? I would prefer it if every member of congress gave a response to the speech. Bachmann's speech will not be carried by the network news. She is speaking not for the GOP, but for the independent conservatives that put the GOP in charge of the House.

You are going to hear 100 different commentators after the speech. Are you going to criticize them all for responding?" <<<<<

Thank you, P-Marlowe, I emphatically agree with you; and in answer to your question I believe that there exist posters on FR who obviously & overtly seeking to establish a large "BASH-Bachmann" chorus.

Some of the theads about Rep. Bachmann going to Iowa were just blatant in this regards, IMNSHO.

No kidding!!

The BEST TV by far is when Mr. Bo-Tingles Matthews has Rep. Michele Bachmann on his show -- it is mesmerizing to watch, LOLOLOL

I am trying to remember election night, when a GOP site was taken down. It was a ‘response’ site. IIRC, it was about what the GOP intended to do. McCain was involved somehow, along with 3 others. Am trying to remember the other 3 onames.

Rep. Michele Bachmann was a tax attorney, so I seriously doubt that she’ll encounter much difficulty crunching numbers.

I’m already steaming about:
1. Fred Upton heading the energy and commerce committee.
2. Backstabbing Steve King, the guy we want to head the immigration committee.
3. This stupid stunt to disguise the Democrats’ rout.
4. No Republican member of Congress standing up for Governor Sarah Palin this month.
5. Anybody who supports Mitt Romney who sold the building to the Musselmen that might try to build the Victory Mosque.

Wonder if she’s setting herself up as part of a third party ticket should the Republican nominee in 2012 suck.

You have no idea how I would walk over broken glass to vote for her no matter how she does it. I hope she runs and beats the Republican RINOs or 3rd party. I would love to finally vote for someone who believes in the exact same values as I do. I voted for McCain in 2008 and lost and what did that get me? Nothing.

a PBS blurb roundtable the other nite had the libtard actually stating that w/o the $$$Ttrillions in spending/'stimulus' that unemployment would be 13-14% vs the 10% that it is today...

and the usual crap that the states cant 'absorb' the reduced fed dollars and the police, fire, education etc will all be cut to compensate...

the 'right' guy didnt have much for answers except the obvious, that the states and the people therein must take responsibility and adjust...

that argument simply wont work in the entitlement age...we-R-screwed...

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but isn’t this the Hugh Hewitt who thinks Mitt Romney pees champaign? He’ll do or say anything he thinks will help that backstabbing liar. No wonder he has not nice things to say about the TEA Party Express.

RE :”a PBS blurb roundtable the other nite had the libtard actually stating that w/o the $$$Ttrillions in spending/’stimulus’ that unemployment would be 13-14% vs the 10% that it is today.

Then again it might have peaked at 13-14 % and then declined to <7% by now.

What libs ignore is the longer term negative effects of their policies. Why would businesses hire here when DC politicians(especially Democrats) consider them the cash cows to pay for everything from the government spending deficits to free health care? China has a low corporate tax rate AND no capital gains investment tax, no mandated health care or unemployment compensation taxes or payroll taxes. Whatever their problems, they welcome employers.

Ryan is very conservative.

But will he be reading a script he wrote, or one the RNC wrote?

Yes, the more the merrier. The Tea Party must remain front and center to remind the establishment Republicans that they had better treat the TP with respect and that the TP is not controlled by the GOP.

I agree... my Senator Roger Wicker has stabbed Conservatives in the back once again... he announced this morning that he will be sitting with the rat senator from Maryland.

>>Did you also somehow miss how Rubio (who would NOT have won without Tea Party support, and I mean from all over and not just Florida chapters) has declined to join the Tea Party Caucus?<<

Rubio explained that by saying he wanted to be cautious about setting up a face of the T.E.A. party that would be used as a third party mantra. He wanted to make sure that the grass roots aspect was maintained instead of working to make it “establishment”.

If Christie really was asked to give the response that scares the crap out of me. The guy has been everywhere lately as it is I’m glad he said no if this is true.

Just the good ole boys trying to freeze the girls out as usual. Nothing new about this one. I would listen to Michelle Bachmann over any of those guys.

I’m not real impressed with the $100 billion in spending cuts Ryan has come up with. I like the guy fine but Michelle Bachmann came up with $450 Billion in cuts on her lunch hour a couple of weeks ago. Now thats what I’m looking for.
