T. PETERSBURG - Three law enforcement officers were shot this morning a U.S. Marshal and two St. Petersburg police officers in the 3700 block of 28th Avenue South, police said.
A suspected gunman is barricaded in a home at 3726 28th St. S., and police are trying to negotiate with his family members. He is still shooting at police, officers said.
One of the injured officers had been in the home as well, but an armored vehicle knocked down the door and the officer was evacuated. That officer has been taken to Bayfront Medical Center.

Wow..such a tragic situation.
God bless these families.
Really? Flying to vicinity in a month for vacation, never been to Florida.
Bringing a baby Glock 26 10 rds of 9mm love, with extra 2 15rd mags; a Smith and Wesson 686 snubbie .38 special w/speedloader; at least 2 blades.
Normally I teach the smart, sweet seniors American Government and Economics. This year. my principal threw me under the bus and made me teach the hyper violent 9th graders world history. I hate this subject because of the textbook that has 4 full chapters on ISLAM while Christianity gets a small portion of only a single chapter. The material is very PC which is to say a total pack of lies and I just refuse to teach revisionist history.
This is a very tough inner city high school and I'd guess that about 20% of the kids feel this way. The same 20% who have police records and gang involvements and are regularly suspended for violence. In 2005 my school held the state record for outdoor suspensions: SEVEN THOUSAND in one year for violence on a student population of just 1,800 and it was probably the same 100 punks for all of those.
I have been teaching in the deep inner city of Miami Dade County for the last 15 of my 22+ in the system. This school is markedly tougher than my previous inner city high school. Two years ago a gentle math teacher was jumped by an entire family for the "crime" of confiscating an iPod in his classroom during class time. The crackhead mom, one of her boyfriends, the girl who had the device confiscated and her brother (a golden gloves boxer) all jumped the teacher in the hallway after school when he was just finishing a tutoring session on his own time to help the kids. Unpaid, just because he was a good teacher. The thug family broke his jaw in 3 places and he never returned to the profession. It happened right across from MY classroom on a day when I was (unfortunately) out sick.
The next day, MY students asked me if I was now frightened to come to work. To which I replied in a tired tone: Look, folks. I'm too young to die and too old to take an A$$ whuppin'.... so .... I'm just gonna KILL ya. They responded to that in a quiet whisper: Yeah, we sorta figured you'd say that. I don't sweat the punks. If I did, I wouldn't work there. But having been a professional State of Florida Parole Officer as well as a former professional US Army Officer (Infantry Captain) was great prep for this job!
At my previous school, back in the mid 1990's a kid swung on me and I had to put him down fairly hard. That's why I study Aikido. When I left for the new school after being approached and recruited under a short lived program that gave highly qualified teachers like myself an additional 20% pay raise to work in the toughest schools, MY students all called their buddies in the new school. LOL A security guard told me about that later. He said the kids told their friends that I was coming and that I was an awesome teacher of social studies. But don't mess with that WHITE man because he will kill you dead!" LOL and I'd never even really hurt anybody! Not even the kid who'd swung on me. I guess perception is everything.
Brave? Not hardly. I'm just 100% SHEEPDOG In a profession inhabited mostly by sheep. It sort of stands out. I am by no means what I would consider to be a "tough guy." I never look for trouble. I just make it clear that if "trouble" finds me, I intend to go home to my family that night safe and sound. I will use any level of force necessary to achieve that goal. And I don't need a firearm or knife to get there, either. If you know where to look, weapons are literally everywhere. A rolled up newspaper can be used with lethal effectiveness.
I’d stay out of south St Pete after dark. City is ok during the day, just be aware of where you are. It will be pretty obvious where you shouldn’t be.
Beaches are fine as are the other general tourist areas. I’ve lived here 13 years and have only had a problem when I go someplace where I shouldn’t have been.
Just learn the laws on carrying weapons and their use for self defense.
How about the usurper who loves rap music. The rap where they sing about killin cops.
You should take your own advice.
Well, the fact that some police somewhere think that doesn’t really prove much if anything to me. I suspect it is nothing more than a coincidence, albeit a horrible one. Let’s see if the trend continues - I suspect not.
Yup. Average tax paying citizens are second class.

I’d aso invest in a pitbull and a pair of brass knuckles. And save a little space for the suntan oil!;)
No profiling please.
Bringing the camera and suntan lotion, yet expecting the worst. Seems that in the warmer climates there’s always rabble on the streets, lots of homeless, etc. I’m from near Chicagoland, the cold keeps them indoors or they die from frostbite, hypothermia, floods, tornado, etc.
Body Armor and honed shooter skills are crucial. Parts of AMerica are becoming war zones.
“Hydra”......the perp has seven heads? His Mom must have been a classics scholar. Nobody names their kid Hydra.
Who the heck names their child Hydra?
I actually live in north Pinellas and have been for 30 years. I was bused down to Bogie for a magnet program there. It was honestly my first exposure to blacks. I was curious, played football with a lot of good guys, enjoyed my time there for the most part, but when the riots broke out in 96, everything seemed to change overnight.
I guess I just don’t understand how the black community doesn’t have pride in their own neighborhoods. They have so much rich culture, why not share it with the neighbors?
It doesn’t sound racist, it sounds real. Most folks with the proper means wouldn’t want to live in St. Pete. The closest I’d get is Pinellas Park/Seminole, and even that’s pushing it!
“Krugman ‘s in a corner crying - wishing he could blame the tea party...”
Krugman would have no problem blaming the Tea Party. When has the truth ever hampered his blathering?
*SIGH*
Blaming the officer(s).
Blaming ALL law enforcement officers.
Your “Prayers for their families,” rings hollow and insincere, as you go on to say “since they have to live with the consequences of their family member's decisions.”
My God. . .
11 officers shot within 24 hours.
Somebody will need to explain to me what each particular officer did to provoke their shooting.
It must be all that vitriolic rhetoric from the right....this has nothing to do with that left leaning hate group that called for attacks on police last week...
nothing to see here move along...
MSM - SILENT...
Just like this event:

I have no answers, as I do not side with police-haters on FR.
