I’d stay out of south St Pete after dark. City is ok during the day, just be aware of where you are. It will be pretty obvious where you shouldn’t be.
Beaches are fine as are the other general tourist areas. I’ve lived here 13 years and have only had a problem when I go someplace where I shouldn’t have been.
Just learn the laws on carrying weapons and their use for self defense.

I’d aso invest in a pitbull and a pair of brass knuckles. And save a little space for the suntan oil!;)
