Obama to Push New Spending State of Union Speech to Call for Boosting 'Competitiveness' While Nodding to Need for Budget Cuts
President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday, sharpening his response to Republicans in Congress who are demanding deep budget cuts, people familiar with the speech said.
Mr. Obama will argue that the U.S., even while trying to reduce its budget deficit, must make targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economy. The new spending could initiatives aimed at building the renewable-energy sectorwhich received billions of dollars in stimulus fundingand rebuilding roads to improve transportation, people familiar with the matter said. Money to restructure the No Child Left Behind law's testing mandates and institute more competitive grants also could be included.
In arguing that U.S. competitiveness is at stake, Mr. Obama plans to use his nationally televised speech to try to frame the spending debate with Republicans that is expected to dominate Congress in the coming months. "We seek to do everything we can to spur hiring and ensure our nation can compete with anybody on the planet," Mr. Obama said Friday after touring a General Electric Co. plant in Schenectady, N.Y. He cited clean-energy manufacturing, infrastructure and education as keys to competitiveness.

Nothing!
And that is what we should do.
The Bankers don't want that because we wouldn't get anymore credit.
As a loyal nobama subject I am sitting around waiting for my money from his “stash”. Obviously, he is so much more intelligent than the rest of us peons. All praise nobama and his highly intelligent “leadership”. Truly, he is a genius. (My “new tone” has appartently destroyer my brain)
You forgot the Unicorns and Skittles... and I agree! JUST SAY NO to the kenyan usurper!
LLS
This gives Paul Ryan a TON of ammunition (PC very much ignored!) for an excellent rebuttal.
Emperor Zero is relying on the stupidity of the voters and his slobbering press machine. Don’t underestimate their powers.
Very, very good!
Did he really say that each year?
Obama, tripling-down.
Paul Ryan should play this clip during his response to the State of the Union speech:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCQAJ5na5Z4&feature=related
...anyone expecting anything different from this evil **** is just not listening, or paying attention.
It's from memory, so it's not a precise quote, but it's darn accurate, and he has said it pretty much the same way repeatedly since early in 2008.
I noticed it in an early debate, before the economic crisis hit in Sept 2008. This was probably back in June 2008, when the biggest issue was reducing deficit spending (nasty George W. Bush had an outrageous deficit of $160B!!). So, they asked Obama and McCain where they would cut.
Now, McCain went second, and his answer was pretty short: "Defense". Isn't that nice?
But Obama's answer on cutting the deficit was more detailed. He made it very clear he was cutting. He didn't like deficits. He wanted a smaller budget. And he proposed to achieve these goals "by investing in roads and bridges, investing in education and health. Most importantly by investing in green technology and alternative energy sources."
And he has been remarkably consistent since that campaign. His "solutions" are carved in stone. The problems change -- cut the deficit, or stimulate the economy, or create jobs, or seek bipartisan agreement, whatever you want -- the solution is always "infrastructure, jobs, green tech".
Out of curiosity, why do you cite your ethnicity? Why not just say you’re an American male?
That’s 22 mnonths away... if the US was suckered once into electing him, it can be suckered again.
“We did not send these guys to Washington to help Obama govern; we sent them to stop him.”
Exactly!!! They had better not buy into this whole play nice, let’s sit together at the SOTU crap. Do everything you can to stop this jackass from doing any more damage and do everything you can to reverse what he has already done.
Ps: Can I please steal your post for a new tagline?
Obambi latest public promises to GE (carbon credit accomplice) are a set up.
No more spending ... that's not how jobs are created.
Seems like we’ve heard this before. Didn’t he talk about infrastructure and so forth in numerous other speeches?
This must be a head fake. Obama is not this stupid. I don’t think he is going to call for additional spending.

..... Just a footnote. Having done the math on this, it emerges that (IIRC) about 60+ pct of the increase in the national debt during the eight years of the W presidency was incurred during the last two years, when the Spendocrats controlled Congress.
