In the aftermath of the attempted murder of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords earlier this month, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have proposed a cluster of gun control measures ranging from a ban to knowingly carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of certain high-profile government officials to a proposal to allow members of Congress to carry firearms in the U.S. Capitol.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy formally introduced her own bill on the House floor Tuesday that would ban high-capacity ammunition clips like the one Jared Loughner used to gun down 19 individuals in the Tucson shooting Jan. 8.
McCarthy, who is regarded as one of the toughest gun-control proponents on Capitol Hill, has dedicated her congressional service to reducing gun violence after a tragic incident in 1993 in which gunman Colin Ferguson unleashed a hail of bullets aboard a packed Long Island Railroad commuter train, and used 15-round magazines to kill six people, including McCarthys husband, and injured 19 more, including her son.
I know what its like to have tragedy brought to your life in a split second by a madman with high-capacity ammunition magazines, McCarthy said. Im working to stop it from happening again. We need comprehensive reform to reduce the number of people hurt or killed by gunfire in America, but one simple way we can do that is by keeping the worst tools of mass murder away from the general public. This nation has come together before to support this simple, commonsense measure, and it is the law in several states right now. It is a small sacrifice that law-abiding gun owners can make once again in order to increase everyones safety.

Carrying concealed, it would be rare to have a pistol magazine of any meaningful caliber that held more than 15 rounds, staggered. Unconcealed, pack what you want.
Drums are cool but they tend to tempt you to smoke a barrel; I try to save mine (barrels), but OK, maybe I have a few I could spare if the zombies start crawling out of the ground.
In a one-on-one gun battle, the first accurate shot counts most. History has been affected greatly by single, accurate shots.
It’s too late for them.
If the Leftist Nutcase who murdered these people used his Dad’s Pickup Truck and ran them over instead of shooting them, would owning an F-150 become a Federal Crime?
Anybody driving a two ton vehicle could cause just as much havoc if the thought entered their mind. You can make a bomb out of a Barbecue Propane Tank if you have the desire.
I like Rush’s take on this. Just make it illegal for Democrats to own firearms. Problem solved...
If DUmocrats want to become PROPERTY OF THE STATE, they should volunteer themselves for sterilization and incarceration....Three hots and a cot await!

34 rounds on target in 16 seconds. No high cap mags needed.
Colin Ferguson, the man who shot Congresswoman McCarthy's husband, had more in common with Jared Loughner than their use of "Hi-Cap" magazines.
Both are paranoid schizophrenics with long histories of police encounters.
Ferguson believed that the government was attempting to implant devices in his brain.
I just sent an email with the Congresswoman asking if she would also spend any time advocating to keep violent deranged individuals off our streets.
Somehow I don't expect she will.
Seen this yet?
No amount of gun control is going to bring back McCarthy’s husband nor undo the injuries to her son. McCarthy needs to get out of politics and get on with her life.
To be fair, that's a IPSC race gun that has been modified to make reloading as fast as possible. But, he demonstrates a technique that will work with any semi-automatic handgun.
He is pressing the release to drop the empty magazine while simultaneously retrieving a full magazine from his belt. It looks like he has the new one loaded before the empty one hits the ground.
It doesn't look like the slide is locked back, so it would have to be released if the gun runs dry. But, in actual competition, good shooters plan their reloads at points in the stage where there is still at least one in the chamber.
Thanks for the post. I just called my Congresscritter and encouraged him to vote against all the knee-jerk gun banning bills including this one that are sure to come following this tragedy.
Great pic! Can I get two for my .45 Glocks?
I guess she used funds from the settlement from the shootings to buy a 2 million home in the Hamptons? She’s the
unltimate back-bencher,who’s only called upon in these cases.
Someone needs to change the title to "DEM HAG instead of McCarthy".
I got freaked out and though it was Kevin McCarthy who a GOP leader.
How reliable are those anyway?
My HK45 holds 10, feeding is dead on reliable, mags fall
when the release is pressed. I suspect that a better shooter than I can get 30 rounds through it as fast as
the Tucson shooter did from his Glock with its expanded capacity mag.
But I would not be opposed to owning one such mag, just to thumb my nose at Feinstein, Shumer and the Brady’s.
Heavy as hell, not that reliable, they jam occasionally. Good for a stationary position, if you can learn to adjust for the lighter weight as the thing gets emptied.
I am beginning to think ALL New Englanders are inverterate cowards. What tragic reverse evolution has taken place since the Revolutionary war!
Feinstein’s husband made a killing as a war profiteer, and she has the audacity to go after the tea party?

Rahm Emmanuel said to never let a good tragedy go to waste. That’s the kind of philosophy that should concern all of us about government.
It is outrageous that these politicians will take such an event and use it to advance their political goals or agenda. One is better off being cynical versus naive in our society.
