Rep. McCarthy Intros Bill to Ban High-Capacity Ammo Clips
ABC News Blog ^ | 1/18/11 | John R. Parkinson

In the aftermath of the attempted murder of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords earlier this month, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have proposed a cluster of gun control measures ranging from a ban to knowingly carrying a firearm within 1,000 feet of certain high-profile government officials to a proposal to allow members of Congress to carry firearms in the U.S. Capitol.

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy formally introduced her own bill on the House floor Tuesday that would ban high-capacity ammunition clips like the one Jared Loughner used to gun down 19 individuals in the Tucson shooting Jan. 8.

McCarthy, who is regarded as one of the toughest gun-control proponents on Capitol Hill, has dedicated her congressional service to reducing gun violence after a tragic incident in 1993 in which gunman Colin Ferguson unleashed a hail of bullets aboard a packed Long Island Railroad commuter train, and used 15-round magazines to kill six people, including McCarthy’s husband, and injured 19 more, including her son.

“I know what it’s like to have tragedy brought to your life in a split second by a madman with high-capacity ammunition magazines,” McCarthy said. “I’m working to stop it from happening again. We need comprehensive reform to reduce the number of people hurt or killed by gunfire in America, but one simple way we can do that is by keeping the worst tools of mass murder away from the general public. This nation has come together before to support this simple, commonsense measure, and it is the law in several states right now. It is a small sacrifice that law-abiding gun owners can make once again in order to increase everyone’s safety.”

IT’S NOT THE GUNS OR CLIPS. Shut down the criminal element....problem solved. Our country is turning into a criminal haven..........including Washington DC.

Camden, N.J., to lose nearly half its cops

NJ, thru its insane gun laws, are now going to feed the good people that are left in Camden to the wolves.

They can tell. Their target audience can’t, and the antis keep up a confusing fog to further their goals.

Go to YouTube, type in “fast reload” and bring up the clip with Travis Thomasie. Fast is a serious understatement. Travis is a World Champion IPSC shooter so it’s not really fair to say anyone can do this, but it certainly points out the idiocy of limiting mags to 10 rounds.

Consider that they get a million emails straightening them out, and search engines work from their smartphones, the ignorance they display must (IMO) be faked.

And one reason might be to keep other antis and their followers ignorant. They wouldn’t want some SIEU or ACORN plant yelling “that’s not an assault weapon” at a faked “town hall”!

If McCarthy studied the events around her husband’s regrettable death at the hands of a white-hater she should have learned the difference between clips and mags- yet after all this time, she does not? Very strange.

An opportunist to the max, she lost her husband (and source of income). When someone suggested she use his murder to jump on the public payroll, she did not hesitate, which makes me feel that everything she does is as calculated.

She probably knows clips from mags, shotguns from AR-15’s, knows what assault rifles actually are, but she gets more traction with her base by feigning ignorance, and whipping up her opposition, so she can use their reactions against them (a la Rules For Radicals, make your opponents react, not plan).

“How do morons like this get into office?”

On her husband’s death. Her husband was shot by a raving white-hater (Colin Ferguson from Jamaica) and she capitalized on his death.

Another person who rode a bier into the House was Nikki Tsongas. I’m sure there are others.

Ahhhh, just a minute Rep. MaCarthy.

Please state the part of the Constitution that your bill is based upon.

Excellent point - let's see how the GOP enforces this.

Regarding Obama, guns, and all standard-capacity magazines:

He’s coming to take them away, Ha-ha!
He’s coming to take them away!

THAT is what Obama meant by the wildly-cheered code words in his Tucson speech: “We should be willing to challenge old assumptions in order to lessen the prospects of violence in the future.” aka Gun BANS!

I wish Americans could ban low mental capacity politicians like McCarthy.

Can't do that. The criminal element are Democrat voters.

It would be discriminatory.

15 rounds is high capacity? Bull.

Yes, the usual standard capacity for many models.

Colin Ferguson was a black racist (like NY City Councilman Charles Baron) who somehow got a gun in a city that had very strick gun-control laws. Somebody screwed up on this one. I forgot if he got it legally or illegally, but I think possession of it was illegal at that time.

Rep. McCarthy is crazy. agreed.

However, I still wonder why normal person would want a magazine or clip with 33 rounds in it. The average person, even in defending themselves, would probably not have a need to fire 33 shots. I know that having a good reserve after the initial exchange of fire is a good thing, but since I don’t carry, I don’t know if 33 rounds is a good thing given the deadly use by nuts (as versus a 15 round clip for personal defense).

I wish some policemen would comment on this issue.

PS: I’ve fired guns and support gun ownership by sane, decent people and my son, a cop, is a combat veteran of Iraq where he used 250 clip boxes on an M249.

C’mon folks.

Her husband was murdered during that Long Island massacre by Colin Ferguson.

Only six were murdered.

Perhaps if only criminals had access to guns, next time, more folks can be murdered and she won't be so alone in her grief.

Stop thinking of yourselves.
