the government actually claims it can hold hostage people's Social Security payments in order to FORCE those people to accept Medicare enrollment.
The Department of Health and Human Services insists an individual cannot forfeit Medicare eligibility and continue to collect Social Security benefits even after paying into the latter system over an entire career.

Heads up!
The Department of Health and Human Services insists an individual cannot forfeit Medicare eligibility and continue to collect Social Security benefits even after paying into the latter system over an entire career.
From an earlier thread:obamacare blows. So does what we have now. There is no way the clowns in congress will sort it out and come up with something that makes sense for us as a country until they are on the same plan as everyone else in the country. Health care is not a right and it is not a privilege and until we stop treating it as one or the other we will get no where. Decent health care for all citizens is a necessity for a functioning society just like food and water. We have a way of providing and distributing both that takes the cooperation of govt, private industry and society and the same is required for health care.
If you disclaim Medicare, can the Feds disallow you use of the Interstate Highways? Why not?
Because interstate highways have an arguable constitutional basis.
We need to find more ways to pry recipients off of Social Security and all other welfare programs. Who cares why they came up with this rule? It's a good rule.
And if a person does not qualify, and doesn't want to qualify, at age 65, they can be qualified through their spouses social security, whether they like it or not. - tom
I think no matter if its repealed, its too late
for many things like my doubled medical and RX premiums.
I agree. My paycheck deductions have not only doubled, but now lab work, hospital care and any office procedures are billed as a percentage. They used to just have co-pays. I can’t see them changing back no matter what happens with Obamacare.
Regulating health care is not an enumerated power granted to Congress in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution and is a power reserved to the states per the 10th Amendment. Consequently the DHHS is unconstitutional and must be abolished!
Unconstitutional?
Then just give me the money I”VE paid in and I will go away.
That's the attitude!
The constitution doesn't allow for welfare programs. I'm sorry, but this country wasn't founded to give you money.
more Diktat from Obamarx’s comrades
Clicking the link to the Washington Times article, the issue is that the plaintiffs do not want any part of Medicare, but wish to remain with their current private health insurance. The problem with Medicare is that doctors must put up with Medicare's reimbursement rates. This means you are stuck with the set of docs willing to accept Medicare rates for treating you.
We all knew this was coming. Politicians have been making outlandish promises for a long time knowing that their programs would eventually go broke. Social Security, Medicaid, and a whole host of other programs were designed to elicit votes and it was known that those programs are unsustainable.
The difference is that in the past, the politicians would retire from office and their chief beneficiaries would die before the money ran out. Reid, Pelosi, and Zero have the distinction of making such promises and being unable to deliver while still in office. The future is here, welcome to it. For the ignoramuses raving that their homes and cars would be paid for under big O, got any comment now, hmmmm???
Is it still a mystery why socialism fails every time? Socialist economies always collapse because they run out of money, and the current US Government is no exception. There’s not enough money or attainable resources in the universe to sustain the programs of the liberals and their RINO lapdogs. No ifs, ands, or buts. The end is coming soon, it’s only a matter of whether the USG cuts it off and enacts realistic policies or it just eventually collapses under its own weight.
Part A (hospital) is at no charge and mandatory. Parts B (medical) and D (drugs) are optional...you don’t have to take them but you’ll pay if you do.

Socialist economies always collapse because they run out of other peoples’ money...
That is fine, just max out the 401k and Roth to replace SSI and get your health care on health care cruises, I am sure someone is designing the ship as we speak. Oops... Thats right, they are planning to go after our retirement $.....
In Flemming v. Nestor (1960), the Supreme Court ruled that workers have no legal right to Social Security: Congress can cut or eliminate Social Security benefits at any time regardless of a worker's contributions.
Part D is optional only if you never take advantage of it. And if you do some day take advantage of it, there is a time-based penalty you must pay. It's in the Medicare booklet. Look it up. It's not something they scream and yell about.
I had Aetna last year at $27/mo. This year they went up to $64/mo. Guess who switched to Walart/Humana at $14.97/mo? Not as nice a plan but better than $64/mo. Especially since, thank the Good Lord, I have no non-generic prescriptions.
This is already in litigation:

So, what have we learned in 2,065 years?
“The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”
— Cicero , 55 BC
Evidently, nothing.
