Mugged by Medicare: Feds to withhold Social Security benefits if you don't sign up
American Spectator ^ | 1.17.11 @ 11:34AM | By Quin Hillyer

the government actually claims it can hold hostage people's Social Security payments in order to FORCE those people to accept Medicare enrollment.

The Department of Health and Human Services insists an individual cannot forfeit Medicare eligibility and continue to collect Social Security benefits even after paying into the latter system over an entire career.

Read the whole article. I especially liked some of the comments being made. Some very well thought ones too.

Medicare Part A comes with your Social Security at no cost to you when you enroll in SS.

There is also Part B—which costs about 10% of your SS payments

There is also Part D, which I don’t know how much it costs.

Can this article be a little more specific??

Working with elderly for years, it seems to me it has always been this way. Once you sign up for SS, you have to take medicare. If you have a retirement plan with private, or pay for your own policy, those become secondary, medicare is primary. And if your doctor does not take medicare, you must change doctors, cannot revert to your private insurance, that is solely for additional charges to you above and beyond medicare. If medicare does not cover a procedure, your insurance may or may not cover it.

Elderly DO NOT love medicare, they simply have no choice.

Surprised? No. Disgusted? Definitely. Will the Lame Stream Media portray this as fair and unquestionably necessary? You can bet your ass!

It’s really pretty simple. The federal government does as it damn well pleases and puts the holder of the short straw into the system against its full resources to seek redress. It’s been getting worse year after year.

The truth is our government, at many levels, no longer governs with the consent of the governed.

Obamacare will make everyone subject to any whim that strike liberals from moment to moment. Demons.

Do muslims get our SS?

I think no matter if it’s repealed, it’s too late
for many things like my doubled medical and RX premiums.

“What if you dont sign up for either one?........”

Liberals would LOVE it if every conservative in the country dutifully paid lifetime taxes into SS and Medicare and then elected to forego collecting a penny of benefits. Sort of like the public schools, which happily will allow you to pay full freight to send your kid to private school, but only if you also continue to pay taxes to cover “your share” of public education costs.

Progressives allegedly preoccupied with “equity” have a peculiar blind spot when it comes to how to equitably share the burden of the “public option” in health care and education.

Well this 112 congress sure has it’s work cut out for it. So much must be exposed in the right way in order to minimize how the L/MSM machines can put spin on it.

Part A is “free”.
My part B costs me $96.40 monthly
Part D (drug plan) price varies with plan. AARP was charging me $41.00 each month. I dropped them for Humana/walmart. I get similar coverage for $14.70.
I get Plan F (Medigap)for $ 123/mo with mutual of omaha.

Any rule that cuts people off of Social Security and Medicare is a good rule. Both programs are unconstitutional.

Part D is prescription drug coverage which is optional. You can choose from multiple plans that run from about $15/month up to ... $50(?) depending on a number of variables.
