People and business are leaving California in droves. And still the politicians don’t get it.
The unfortunate part of all this is that instead of fixing the problems, the state will turn to other states for a bailout. And the Obama administration will be only too happy to oblige.
I know people who have endured corrupt police "shakedowns" in Jamaica. (Be careful renting cars in Jamaica.)
"Bargabonds" and their blithe attitude towards dangers can really tick me off. They don't understand that if they are not a hot blonde female and twenty years old, no one will care if they disappear in the tropics.
Drugs, killers and high taxes have a price.
Make that “bragabonds”—people who seek status bragging about their travels.
>Finally, who can blame tourists for being horrified by the crimes along the Mexican Riviera?<
That’s insulting to the actual French Riviera’ and I’ve been there. Like comparing a toilet to a throne.
“Adios Amigos!” - Barack Hussein Obama
Now that BO has relaxed tourism to Cuba, which cruise line will be the first to dock in Havana? If there is one from Miami to Havana, it will be packed.
I still think a “Pop a Pirate” cruise would be a hit. Cruise offshore Somalia and nail vicious terrorist with assorted weapons. Insurance would be a snag, have to sign a release.
Might be time to use the Interstate Commerce Act to stop illegal immigration (Act used to end slavery).

GOOD POINT HERE The unfortunate part is that instead of fixing the problems, the
state will expect taxpayers to finance federal bailouts. And the desperate
Obama administration, looking to to suckup to latino votes, is only too happy to oblige.
Mexican president Calderon and Ohaha.
I think this is a paradigmatic teachable moment. It stands on its own as its own lesson.
Simple, direct
Cause and effect
It’s happening with the cruise lines because, well, that’s a business that’s pretty danged easy to pick up & relocate. And it’s a fairly desirable business, on balance, to have in your location. It brings in tourism dollars, transportation dollars, service industry dollars, logistics dollars. It brings in people who are eager to have a good time and spend money. It is an alternate way (to pure freight) to revitalize port districts in towns with ports, and to build fairly simple buildings that generate good revenue. And, if it gets going, it motivates the freight-only port people to clean up their act some.
Sure, it brings in pollution. Every business does, with very few exceptions. Generally speaking, the cruise operators are highly savvy folks who know very well what they are doing, and want nothing more than to work with the port for smooth and profitable operations. The cruise industry is VERY competitive, it is a low-margin buisness for the operators. Still, they pay their bills and in most cases, provide nice benefits to ports who will host them. I would think they are a VERY desirable business to have.
Probably couldn’t afford the bribe money any longer to local officials, payments to the military and extortion monies to drug mafias for protection.
This couldn’t happen to a more deserving comrade than Jerry Brown.
Until November 2nd California thought that all they had to do was to go to Washington DC and their fellow Democrat Socialists would send them money.
No more Senor Brown.
The GOP now controls the purse strings and El Presidente Obama is curtailed.
San Diego: “We don’t have cruise ships anymore, but we have low-riders cruising the streets!”
Losing a cruise ship is a big economic hit for a city.
Here are some approximate numbers:
A cruise ship carrying 2500 passengers will load 130,000 people during the year. Passengers typically spend 3 days in the departure port before or after the cruise and spend $300 in the departure port city. That is $39 million per year.
Additionally, the cruise ship pays port fees to dock the ship and without that revenue, the city needs to maintain the docks from the property taxes.
So if California is losing 4 cruise ships that will cost the State more than $150 million per year.
This is what happens when the Socialist Democrats from the State of California do nothing to guard the borders and allow the drug runners free rein in Mexico and California.
“But, but...undocumented immigrants are a net plus to our economy!”

I hear it is going to be renamed, "Kangaroo of the Seas"
I don’t know the full story behind all this but I can tell you that my wife and I get a lot of brochures from cruise lines and you can get a Mexico cruise for next to nothing. That certainly is an indicator that they’re having a hard time filling their ships for the Mexican Riviera.
We cruised on Mariner of the Seas out of Port Canaveral, FL, on its last cruise before its relocation cruise around South America to San Diego. These cruise lines don’t do an expensive relocation like this without big economic justification.
This story is incomplete. Carnival Lines is replacing its current Mexican Riviera cruise ships with battleships being brought out of mothballs ...
Last April we took the Carnival Elation out of San Diego as it was being moved/repositioned to Mobile Ala. While in Acapulco I was very, very nervous as we did a fair amount of walking around. I don’t plan on ever going back to any Mexican resort if I can help it.
We’re thinking of also taking the repositioning of the Splendor (?) to Australia. Not sure yet.
