Cruise Lines Abandon San Diego due to Mexico Drug Crime, High California Taxes
Uncoverage ^ | January 15, 2010 | Jane Jamison

The new year 2011 and lack of confidence in the tax policies of incoming governor Jerry Brown brings devastating news to Southern California. The progressive tax-and-spend policies of Democrat-run California government have chased another lucrative business out of the state. The open-borders, do-nothing immigration policy of the Obama administration claims the runner-up prize for this economic blow to an already-reeling economy in San Diego. The major cruise lines have just announced they are leaving San Diego, California to make NEW home ports in Texas, Florida and Australia. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that Texas and Florida don’t have state income taxes and California has the highest state income tax in the country? I’m also sure new governor Jerry Brown’s announcement that a $50 billion tax increase should be approved by voters this spring is also helpful as businesses make their decisions about whether to stay in “the Golden State.”

Finally, who can blame tourists for being horrified by the crimes along the “Mexican Riviera?”

These cruise lines will NEVER come back after making this decision. Why not just give in to the Reconquista movement and give Southern California over to the Mexican drug cartels and quit pretending like we are a sovereign nation?

I think it is HIGH TIME that the cruise companies cut Mexico’s tourism off however it can. The despicable media “cover-ups” of the carnage occurring on a daily basis in Mexico and the dangers to tourists have gone on long enough. Cut off the tourism bucks. Do not enable this farce of a Mexican government any longer. Make them handle their drug cartels, or let them devolve into chaos. Stay the hell out of Mexico. Denounce the corrupt Mexican president who had the nerve to lecture the American people about illegal immigration in our Congress chambers. Let him solve his own problems without our tax and tourism dollars. Check out the graphic pictures and story from the “truth-telling” website, Blog del Narco linked below.

After all, a vacation in Acapulco — what can go wrong???

People and business are leaving California in droves. And still the politicians don’t get it.

The unfortunate part of all this is that instead of fixing the problems, the state will turn to other states for a bailout. And the Obama administration will be only too happy to oblige.

I still know people who travel to Mexico, "Oh the tourist port cities are safe!" And I beg them no to go.

I know people who have endured corrupt police "shakedowns" in Jamaica. (Be careful renting cars in Jamaica.)

"Bargabonds" and their blithe attitude towards dangers can really tick me off. They don't understand that if they are not a hot blonde female and twenty years old, no one will care if they disappear in the tropics.

Make that “bragabonds”—people who seek status bragging about their travels.

That’s insulting to the actual French Riviera’ and I’ve been there. Like comparing a toilet to a throne.

I repeat...

Also pity the states that were paid to keep the unemployment checks coming...

The feds will charge them $1.3 billion in interest come fall on the billions they have borrowed from Washington to pay unemployment benefits during the downturn.

Now that BO has relaxed tourism to Cuba, which cruise line will be the first to dock in Havana? If there is one from Miami to Havana, it will be packed.
I still think a “Pop a Pirate” cruise would be a hit. Cruise offshore Somalia and nail vicious terrorist with assorted weapons. Insurance would be a snag, have to sign a release.

Glad you clarified that, because Google reports precisely two hits on “bargabonds” — both of them this post!

People and business are leaving California in droves b/c of illegals............and the politicians still don’t get it.

Might be time to use the Interstate Commerce Act to stop illegal immigration (Act used to end slavery).

----------------------------------------

GOOD POINT HERE The unfortunate part is that instead of fixing the problems, the
state will expect taxpayers to finance federal bailouts. And the desperate
Obama administration, looking to to suckup to latino votes, is only too happy to oblige.

Mexican president Calderon and Ohaha.

I think this is a paradigmatic teachable moment. It stands on its own as its own lesson.

Simple, direct
Cause and effect

It’s happening with the cruise lines because, well, that’s a business that’s pretty danged easy to pick up & relocate. And it’s a fairly desirable business, on balance, to have in your location. It brings in tourism dollars, transportation dollars, service industry dollars, logistics dollars. It brings in people who are eager to have a good time and spend money. It is an alternate way (to pure freight) to revitalize port districts in towns with ports, and to build fairly simple buildings that generate good revenue. And, if it gets going, it motivates the freight-only port people to clean up their act some.

Sure, it brings in pollution. Every business does, with very few exceptions. Generally speaking, the cruise operators are highly savvy folks who know very well what they are doing, and want nothing more than to work with the port for smooth and profitable operations. The cruise industry is VERY competitive, it is a low-margin buisness for the operators. Still, they pay their bills and in most cases, provide nice benefits to ports who will host them. I would think they are a VERY desirable business to have.

My brother and his wife have been to the Mexican resorts several times. You couldn’t pay me to travel there.

I once took a Mediterranean cruise that stopped in Barcelona, Spain. I was concerned that it would be just like Mexico, and a friend of mine who had been to Spain said, “trust me. Mexico doesn’t make a patch on Spain’s a$$.” He was right. Much different and better country.

The problem is that, no matter where you live, you will be responsible for bailing out California, if the state and our very generous gangsta-in-chief have their way.

Probably couldn’t afford the bribe money any longer to local officials, payments to the military and extortion monies to drug mafias for protection.

Pop a pirate cruise line trip? That’s border line genious! Not to mention hilarious. That could really go somewhere. Definetely worth looking into. Logistics for weapons platforms might be a pain heh.
