Lawsuit looms over law to require thumbprint, restrict Internet and mail-order sales.
Right now, law enforcement officials have no idea who buys handgun ammunition in California or how much. That will change on Feb. 1, unless a court intervenes.
Under a new law, those buying handgun ammunition will have to provide dealers with a thumbprint, photo identification, address and birth date.
The thrust of the law is to make it easier for police to investigate or prevent gun crimes by tracking bullet purchases by those already barred from possessing guns, such as felons, those convicted of firearms-related misdemeanors or members of criminal street gangs under court injunction.
Also, Californians will no longer be allowed to receive handgun ammunition directly through the Internet or by mail order.
Dealers are wary of the new law, among the strictest of its kind in the nation.
“People will just buy it elsewhere,” said Marc Halcon, owner of the American Shooting Center in San Diego. “It just further enlarges our economic problems.”
Halcon, who is also president of the California Association of Firearms Retailers. said the law is riddled with flaws. He and other critics contend it violates Second Amendment gun rights, breaches federal interstate commerce laws and is too vague, making it difficult for vendors to comply.

The State of California has told the US that they are in fact a Criminal Enterprise, by passing laws that are Unconstitutional and restrictive of a persons GOD GIVEN RIGHT to Heep and Bear Arms protected by the US Constitution. Therefore Every Single Manufacturer of Ammunition and Firearms should ask this question before any sales to Any GOVERNMENT Agent or Agency in California: Does the State of California have ANY LAWS restricting or infringing upon a Persons GOD GIVEN right to Keep and Bear Arms? When they answer YES, refuse the sale on the grounds that it is a Criminal Enterprise, if they Say no Immediately Call the Police and have the Person arrested for Falsifying information in an effort to Illegally purchase Firearms or Ammunition.
I wish the ammo companies would tell the state of california and its law enforcement agencies to take two running leaps and jump straight into hell and refuse to sell them any ammo or components for reloading.
Ammo sellers at the gun shows in Las Vegas and Reno are going to see a nice windfall from this law. Way to send even more California consumers to make purchases out of state.
California is totally fooked.
You can probably fit 4 each 1,000 round bricks of .22 in a shoebox. So 20000 rounds would be 4-5 shoeboxes of room.
I can see it now. An ammo sales counter at every Indian Casino up and down California state. Why not? Would give me a reason to go to an Indian casino. Get lunch. See a show. Buy a few cases of .45 ACP.
Indeed lies. How many criminals buy their ammo by the case. I’m sure that gun nuts buy orders of magnitude more ammo than gang bangers do.
This is all about gun control. Can’t control guns? Then control the ammo. Tax & regulate it to where most people can’t afford to buy it or jump through the hoops to get it.
Simple.
In some alternate universe, SCOTUS would declare this law a 2A infringement.

I’d be more worried about Law enforcement having no idea about who’s coming over the Southern border of CA.
I can see it now. We have these roadside produce stands all over California. Now the Cal. borders states will have roadside ammo stands on every route in and out. LOL.

There is only one way the State of California will get to see my fingerprints and that is when I flip them the bird. That ink pad better be quick. I would rather pay double for my ammo out of state that comply with the unconsitutional dictate of socialist tyrants. I won’t do without but I won’t give the commies what they want either. I will find another way.
Imagine that! Indians selling guns and ammo to the settlers.
As a matter of fact, it was a Cadillac. Although they brought the ammo out on a 4 wheeled dolly, it didn’t seem to have much of an effect on the car. Sorry. Nice try though.
Maybe the “Flying J” truck-stop at Exit 1 there on I-10 could start selling ammo.
