Media Point Fingers at a Favorite Enemy -- The Second Amendment
foxnews.com ^ | 12 January, 2011 | Dan Gainor

It was inevitable. After spending several days following the Tucson massacre working to curtail the 1st Amendment, the left and the media are now targeting the 2nd. As always, they have help from either those legitimately concerned for their safety or others trying to scavenge political points from the dead and wounded.

Following the attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) is planning to push a bill “to ban the carrying of any firearm within 1,000 feet of what he described as ‘high-profile government officials.’” Presumably, King will issue massive measuring tapes to all Americans, or perhaps GPS alarms so we know when we violate his private space. This follows attempts by Rep. Robert Brady (D-Pa.) to rein in freedom of speech by limiting the use of crosshairs in political commentary.

Either of these actions would be silly at any other time. But following Saturday’s tragedy, they will both receive more attention than they deserve. It is incredible irony that politicians seek to honor Rep. Giffords by undermining two amendments she holds dear.

Prior to the shooting, Giffords had read aloud the 1st Amendment on the floor of Congress. And even The New York Times led a front-page story off with an anecdote about her own gun ownership.

In the media’s anti-gun culture, none of that matters. “Is it time to rethink the 2nd Amendment?” MSNBC anchor Richard Lui asked on the Jan. 11 “Jansing & Co.” Journalists would have answered with a resounding “Yes!”

More gun laws = more criminals getting more guns.

Does the intellectual brilliance of liberals have no end?

There can be "no end" to anything with "no beginning".

Their intellectual brilliance blinds only themselves.

My bigger fear is that once the congresscritters become armed, they will shoot each other in a contest to declare which side is most uncivil.

The seargent at arms needs body armor.

Media manipulation of the masses. They shoved Obama down the people’s throat. They refuse to report the truth.
It is what they do not tell us that hurts us.

More gun laws = more criminals getting more guns.

As soon as you start discriminating between those in free society who can or cannot possess "something", you open the door to bans. If they can't be trusted with guns (and we all know bad-check-writers cannot), they shouldn't be free.

But hey, you get what you ask for and if you're happy opening the door to the gun-banners you... get what you ask for.

Please turn in your guns now, citizen. (We already have them registered.)

Americans are such sweet little nebbishes; they'll go along with ANYTHING.

My biggest fear is that they will miss.

And engage in more "bi-partisan" legislation that scr*ws the rest of us.

Dear Lord God, give them all AccurateAim[TM]! ([TM] when I get around to it, then I collect the proceeds. ;^)

King is a total fool to promote a bill like this. There's no way in hell this will mean jacksh$t to future paranoid schizophrenics like the Tucson shooter. It will however create a gun-free kill-zone nearly a half mile in diameter, assuring that no armed law-abiding citizens will be around to stop future slaughters by paranoid schizophrenics.

And the most funny part of this? Each high government official walks around at the center of their own personal kill-zone! You know, a lot like the Lil Abner character Joe Btfsplk who walks around with his personal bad-luck jinx cloud over his head all the time.

Note to Peter King. Patriot Post founders Quote yesterday -
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such Laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants .They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. _Casar Becarria on Crimes and Punishment as quoted by Thomas Jefferson in Common Place Book.

I'm on your side. But, I think you and many other 2nd Amendment advocates are incorrect to assume that that the Left doesn't “get it” when it comes to the 2nd Amendment. In fact, the Left Leadership does “get it”. That's why they consider the elimination of private ownership of guns as their holy grail. If they should ever accomplish their goal of outlawing private ownership of firearms and confiscation of, then they would have free rein in inacting their totalitarian/elitist form of government that has been their objective all along.

Difference between a Liberal and a Conservative:

A crazy nutjob is walking down the street alone with a gun and shoots someone.

Liberal wants to know why everyone has guns.
Conservative wants to know why the hell a crazy nutjob is walking down the street alone.

The MSM, the high priests of liberalism, know two things: the political lords (liberal) are untouchable and the rabble(conservative) better know their place - or else. And they’ve been relentlessly driving home those points since last weekend.

Yes, a few of them get it. The handful of utopians running the movement. They get it, for now.

But not ultimately. The masterminds don’t see far enough to know that their path and that of the fool meet and become one, long before reaching the end.

They used to call that "duelling."

Apparently nowadays "CIVILITY" is supposed to mean not getting angry when dictatorship is imposed on you and your loved ones -- especially because there are no moral absolutes and dictatorship is just as reasonable an alternative as a constitutional republic, right?

Still failing to see a downside to that. Think Chuck Schumer Vs Oly Snowe... There is no downside to that outcome...
