In an exclusive statement, famed attorney and Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz defended Sarah Palins use of the term blood libel from multiple detractors. As the Media Matters/MSM/Democrat narrative on the Tucson tragedy unravels, they are getting a lot more desperate in their attacks on Palin. Fortunately, there are still plenty of honest liberals around:
The term blood libel has taken on a broad metaphorical meaning in public discourse. Although its historical origins were in theologically based false accusations against the Jews and the Jewish People, its current usage is far broader. I myself have used it to describe false accusations against the State of Israel by the Goldstone Report.

Dershowitz can be a pain, but this is not the first time he has been very honest about things. His ideology is very different from mine — but I believe him to be an honest man. Very rare in a Democrat these days.
Putting the strange in strange bedfellows. Still, good for you for speaking out, Alan.
Well, I suppose with Dershowitz’s Elitist East Coast Seal of Approval, fellow condescending elites like Charles Krauthammer, will be satisfied.....
Out here in pedestrian flyover land, we plebians are perfectly fine with the statement as it stands on its own.
Don’t need no Dershowitz, no how...
Good for Dersh. The great genius of using blood libel though is now the talk is about Sarah Palin and her use of the term, instead of how conservatives shot giffords with their heated rhetoric, AND, this new theme steals the thunder (ahem....whatever it may be) from Obama’s teleprompterfest today.
And some people think Sarah is dumb....LOL!
Dershowitz doesn’t ever toe the party line- he’s an independent guy with strong opinions- can’t stand his politics but I don’t ever wonder- is that what he really thinks? He speaks his mind. A quality rarely seen these days.
He is absolutely correct.
Dersh has, at times, had moments of lucidity..................
Dershowitz is staunch supporter of Israel and he sees Palin as probably one of the stronger candidates who also supports Israel.
pings to r9etb & wtc911 over on
IIRC, Alan is truly despised by the academic radical Left.
Only because he disagrees with them on matters pertaining to Israel......................
About every 10th try, Alan Dersh gets it right. This one is appreciated.
Alan Dershowitz is correct.
“Blood libel” in Palin’s usage is pretty plain and a good use of the term. She is accused of being guilty of the blood of the dead in Tuscon. She has “blood on her hands,” as it were.
It is an accusation against all conservatives, that their very speaking and publishing causes the deaths of innocent persons. Their very holding of conservative understandings makes conservatives guilty of murder. This is a very similar sort of attitude to the Blood Libel of the Moslems against the Jews. The Left is not saying, yet, that conservatives mix little leftist babies(do leftists have babies any more?) into their barbecues. Something like that will come, sooner if the Left really does lose ground.
Controversy does seem to follow Gov Palin. One thing this tells you is that she really runs her own shop. There was a WSJ op-ed the other day that used blood libel in the headline and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where she got it from. I don’t think she meant anything by it and she probably has no idea about medieval accusations against Jews.
But, this is why I think she needs a Press Secretary or spokesman or someone of that nature. She needs someone experienced and skilled in PR who would know about these things. Just someone who before she puts anything out or says anything can look it over and tell her “you know, you might want to change this, or say that instead, or get rid of that particular phrase”. All politicians have someone. When you put out your own material, inevitably you’re going to say certain things that may come off the wrong way, even if there was no intention to.
Not necessarily a speechwriter per se, but just someone who can be an editor of sorts, make sure nothing has the potential to get taken the wrong way. Same thing with the map. I didn’t see it as a gunsight or crosshairs(I could see where others would) and I know what she means when she talks about retreating and reloading, but it wouldn’t hurt if there was someone who would say “this kind of looks like a target, maybe it’s better to use a different symbol, like one of those teardrops google maps uses”.
There’s no doubt some things she says have a bit of a punch to them. I think it’s in reaction to all the attacks against her so she responds. She never really said anything controversial as Governor, no one took issue with anything. In fact, she was praised as bi-partisan and pragmatic(one of the reasons she had appeal as VP).
I don’t know if she’ll run for President(I’m less optimistic than I was after the election), but if she does, she needs to have some professionals who have experience, who know what they’re doing, how to handle the media, how to keep someone on message, etc... Just to prevent constant flare-ups that won’t do her any good.
Thank you for posting this! I am fighting with stupid Obots and GHOUL Democrats on gratewire, and I just shoved this Internet Article down their throats!!!
He also broke ranks with libs over the killing of Teri Schiavo.
Well not totally. The first blood libels were by Romans against Christians in the first century having to do with the Holy Eucharist.
You mean, you think she needs someone to follow her and tell us what Gov. Palin really said.
I think that Gov. Palin is fine the way she is precisely because she doesn't speak the language of the elites. Why does everything have to be 'nuanced' and 'spun' for consumption of the masses?
The American people are smarter than you give them credit for.
