FYI -
Here are statements from Jim about the future of FreeRepublic.com for those who missed them. They are quite serious.
===
"Well, I can say that there are definitely two things that will never happen. 1) Banner ads. 2) Oracle [a completely new database system.] And a third is a total replacement [of the current damaged system.] Dont have the financial wherewithal."
"To those who wish to leave because of it, see ya."
"If FR dies, thats that."
===
[To: paulycy]
Hey, you want us to get an all new system with all new software and add a few more pricey techs, system programmers and database administrators to keep it all working 100% of the time 24/7/365? Well, start coughing up the big bucks.
Its going to take tens of thousands of donations and many with at least three zeros each after the comma to accomplish the task. And that would be EVERY month like clock work to make the payroll. Once you take on a big load of expensive overhead, theres no going back. As it is, we get a couple thousand donations per quarter averaging about $30 bucks each and theres no guarantees we can cover this quarters expenses much less next quarter. Were on a pay as we go system and we have zero employees. We just ask for enough to pay the bills.
Throwing more money at the problem wont solve it. [This latest glitch] was a technical issue and we just had to keep troubleshooting until we found it. And no, were not going to invite a bunch of strangers in to get their hands on our secure systems. John has been programming since he was 14 and hes pushing 40 now. He built these systems and hes an expert in them.
And no, we are not going to throw out our software and rewrite it and no were not going to move on to some other database system. There are no guarantees that any other system can do a better job and not without hiring a staff to build and maintain it and thats for sure. And we dont have the financial wherewithal to do any of that anyway. Maybe if we had a couple million bucks at our disposal and a couple years to do it in we could build an iron-clad system. And maybe not.
All I can say is, if someone else can do it better and cheaper, then please step right on up and get er done!! Ill bow out and retire. Thankyouverymuch.
Hit it boys:
https://secure.freerepublic.com/donate/
And no, we have no plans of taking FR commercial. I like it the way it is. Not sure I could handle getting rich.

I wouldnt mind banner ads if they brought in enough revenue. Oh, you can rest assured that they'd bring in more than enough revenue to sustain the site. This is one of the more popular places on the internet.
If you noticed in the lead post, Jim said, "I don't know if I'm ready to get rich." That's how much potential banner ads have for this site.
For what it's worth, I wouldn't have a single problem with Jim and John finally being financially rewarded for all of their years of dedication to FR.

Look, I was a freeloader for a long time. And I love FR, I mean it is an absolutely horrible day if i can’t visit FR.
But I would be far more inclined to be a monthly supporter if they had put a star by my name. Right now, it is just $10/month, but i will change to $20 per month today.

We don’t get a salary, but we do take a draw. All four of us. We have to pay our bills and our taxes and we work at this full time so have no other way to earn a living. None of us are rich. Also, as the owners of Free Republic, LLC, the net income of the LLC flows back to us and we get to pay the taxes and both sides of the FICA on our personal tax returns.
The budget listed is a couple years old. I’ve asked John to update it, but he always seems to have bigger fish to fry. We added Chris to the payroll a couple years ago and his costs are not reflected in the budget. We also spend considerably more in travel than we budgeted and our taxes are much higher than we had listed. Also there are some big one time expenses we’ve had in the last couple of years that we had to borrow for and our payments are not listed. But they are almost paid off. Unless we get sued again or decide to purchase a lot more equipment or have some other large unexpected expenses pop up, I think we’ll be able to reduce our funding requirements starting next quarter.

So I take it you’ll be doubling your quarterly donation to FR, to keep us running so you have a place to vent your pus oozing spleen so easily?

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I'd increase my meager donations if I knew that some of that increase would be going into Jim and John's pockets instead of into the corporations that suck all the technology bucks out of the site. I always try to put money into the pockets of people I support. I am a capitalist, just not a rich one.

MormonISM, not mormons themselves, they are just deceived.
But the teaching of Joseph Smith?! Evil indeed.
I know I used to be one.

Nice try, pusy spleeniac. MormonISM is anti-Christian but uses Jesus' identity --as they have twisted it-- in their name. It isn't Momrons --the people-- where the evil resides, it's in the ISM, but then you knew that, so why are you and the whining Mormonism apologists constantly trying to conflate the people and the ism?

Are you now calling mormons evil???
Yes; MORMONism IS evil !!
KJV
Galatians 1:6-9
6. I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
ANYBODY???
Like this fine looking fellow???
2 Corinthians 11:12-15
12. But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
13. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Like THESE guys??
17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the otherThis is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
Ephesians 2:1-2
1. And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
1 Corinthians 4:17
For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.
1 Corinthians 11:2
Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
2 Thessalonians 2:15
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
2 Timothy 1:13
Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:14-15
14. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

I'm glad to know that you are at least getting something. I think you should be getting a comfortable living at least out of this but that is your choice, of course.
I would be very helpful to have the public records up-to-date so that they reflect the current financial situation accurately. That would go a long way towards reducing questions and anxiety about all this stuff.
