FYI -
Here are statements from Jim about the future of FreeRepublic.com for those who missed them. They are quite serious.

"Well, I can say that there are definitely two things that will never happen. 1) Banner ads. 2) Oracle [a completely new database system.] And a third is a total replacement [of the current damaged system.] Dont have the financial wherewithal."
"To those who wish to leave because of it, see ya."
"If FR dies, thats that."

Hey, you want us to get an all new system with all new software and add a few more pricey techs, system programmers and database administrators to keep it all working 100% of the time 24/7/365? Well, start coughing up the big bucks.
Its going to take tens of thousands of donations and many with at least three zeros each after the comma to accomplish the task. And that would be EVERY month like clock work to make the payroll. Once you take on a big load of expensive overhead, theres no going back. As it is, we get a couple thousand donations per quarter averaging about $30 bucks each and theres no guarantees we can cover this quarters expenses much less next quarter. Were on a pay as we go system and we have zero employees. We just ask for enough to pay the bills.
Throwing more money at the problem wont solve it. [This latest glitch] was a technical issue and we just had to keep troubleshooting until we found it. And no, were not going to invite a bunch of strangers in to get their hands on our secure systems. John has been programming since he was 14 and hes pushing 40 now. He built these systems and hes an expert in them.
And no, we are not going to throw out our software and rewrite it and no were not going to move on to some other database system. There are no guarantees that any other system can do a better job and not without hiring a staff to build and maintain it and thats for sure. And we dont have the financial wherewithal to do any of that anyway. Maybe if we had a couple million bucks at our disposal and a couple years to do it in we could build an iron-clad system. And maybe not.
All I can say is, if someone else can do it better and cheaper, then please step right on up and get er done!! Ill bow out and retire. Thankyouverymuch.

And no, we have no plans of taking FR commercial. I like it the way it is. Not sure I could handle getting rich.

Cheap humor my specialty.
The position of Forum Character was already taken by Laz, so I had to settle for Village Idiot third class. The pay stinks, but the expectations are low.
Too bad. Your loss.
Thank you, Jim. And God bless you.
I would. This isn’t that kind of site. You can find “Japan U15” on google, girls as young or younger as 3 posing sexually. The mags and DVD’s are sold at corner shops.
I guess they are very libertarian over there.
....
I think this site would really be done and finished if the Christians are driven off too.
HELLO, IT TAKES NOTHING BUT FILLING OUT AN ONLINE FORM TO HOST GOOGLE ADS, AND YOU GET PAID PER IMPRESSION, YOU DO NOT OPEN YOURSELF UP TO LAWSUITS, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO COMMERICIAL (SILLY).
Going without caffeine would be a walk in the park compared to going without Free Republic, the premiere online Conservative site for Conservative commentary and grassroots activism.

Finds it every time it seems. This saves a lot of frustration.
With the Robinsons’ blessing?
But I flipped the first time somebody posted a "blank" post after a software change. And then more people did it. Then I learned to highlight the "blank" posts. I hated it when we first changed software. Curmudgeons are like that.
She's not the only person COMMENTING on it.
Grow up. If FR bugs you so much that you don't want to donate and you can't make it work easily on your iPhone, leave already. Or grow up and quit yer whining.
And you fulfill them wonderfully! Wait a minute..... uh...oh well.
Let me know when you get an answer.
I’ll be busy watching out for those black helicopters.
And cleaning the house now that the kids are back to college.
They post very little.
With you on that. If it would help.
It will if the problem is not enough money :-)
Politics and religion don’t mix?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh soooooooooooooooooo
all those churches working so hard to elect the closest thing we could to conservatives last election had NO impact?
What idiocy.
Large donations from single individuals tends to open the door to undue influence. I'd suspect that's Jim Rob's reasoning.
I don't understand why there's no discussion of replacing the fried 8th server that's been down for months or longer. That's simply a matter of money, right? Why not raise it and spend it and increase our capacity?
I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.
17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the otherThis is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, Never mind, all is wellI am well enough off. I then said to my mother,
