New Mexico, the only state besides California to move forward on comprehensive global warming regulations, is reversing course under a new Republican governor, Susana Martinez. The move threatens to cripple the Western Climate Initiative, a California-driven effort to enact a regional trading program to curb greenhouse gas emissions. Martinez, who replaced Democrat Bill Richardson, announced on Tuesday that she is removing all members of New Mexico's Environmental Improvement Board because of what she said was its "anti-business" policies. After a heated debate, the board last year approved measures to limit the emissions of the state's largest polluters and to join the regional cap-and-trade program.
Supporters argue that the board, whose members were appointed by Richardson, went through an exhaustive public process before approving the regulations, but Martinez's office contends the board moved forward with the regulations after state lawmakers rejected similar efforts during the legislative process.
Martinez said in a statement that New Mexico has been hurt by policies that discourage economic development and result in businesses fleeing the state. "Unfortunately, the majority of EIB members have made it clear that they are more interested in advancing political ideology than implementing common-sense policies that balance economic growth with responsible stewardship in New Mexico," Martinez said...
The fate of the emissions rules remains uncertain. Martinez issued an executive order Saturday halting all pending regulations by executive branch agencies under her control to determine whether they hurt businesses in New Mexico. She also directed agencies to review rules now in place and determine by the end of the month which ones should be scrapped to improve economic development and job growth.
Even if Martinez's administration overturns the rules, another public process including a hearing and an opportunity for the public to comment would be necessary.

As public employees they aren't allowed to lift more than 50 lbs. Feeding Bill was serious business.
WHY & how they are allowed to push these lies on us should be investigated as a crime against humanity
In February 2009, Nobel Laureate and Energy Secretary Steven Chu pontificated without evidence that California farms would dry up and blow away, inasmuch as 90 percent of the annual Sierra snowpack would disappear.
Yet long-term studies of the central Sierra snowpack show average snow levels unchanged over the last 90 years.
Many California farms are drying up -- but from government's, not nature's, irrigation cutoffs.
Great read. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2652243/posts
To bring everybody up to date 24 hours after firing everybody on the EIB, which was established by executive order, she forced the EIBs emission rules not to be published. In other word those rules are now history.
according to the news on KOH (Reno talk radio) the Sierra
snowpack is 150% of ‘normal’ this season.
I like this new NM lady governor.
Not even close! Back in October, CNN sent a crew to interview Martinez here in NM. When they went to hook up a wireless microphone to the back of her waistband, she told "Be careful - there's a gun back there." CNN reported it on one of Wolf Blitzer's programs, saying "She was packing heat when she addressed a gathering in Alamogordo, New Mexico, on Monday."
Governor Martinez has a current NM concealed carry license, and favors a .380 pistol.
My kind of woman!
Cripple it, break it, burn it, mail it's corpse back to California. The green movement is anti-civilization by accident or design, probably the later
First post, long time lurker. Great website :D
Thanks for pinging the NM list — I forgot to do so.
According to the Journal, only one of the two rules is gone. The one you mention was short-circuited as you said, but the Journal says the separate one proposed by the Environment Department that calls for New Mexico participation in a regional cap-and-trade program went into effect on January 1. It will be stopped, temporarily at least, with her executive order ordering a review of all rules and regulations, but is not completely dead as of yet.

Well lets hope that she can get it changed or killed.
When did el Rushbo join the environmental wackos?
“New Mexico’s Environmental Improvement Board,” EIB
Yes, I know - it was attempted humor. Next time I’ll add “/s”.
Still, a good story!
Rush should sue for copyright infringement.
Thanks AAC! I had read something a while back about this “Western Climate Initiatitive” and wondered what would become of it. Seems the wheels may be falling off. None too soon!
Thanks for the ping.
