A mutiny for Mike
NY Post ^ | December 31, 2010 | Editorial

Posted on 12/31/2010 3:35:57 AM PST by Scanian

So it transpires that the city Depart ment of Investigation has been on to reports of a snow-removal slow down all week.

Go to it, folks.

People could have died because of the mini-mutiny -- and those responsible have much for which to answer.

The Post reported yesterday that sanitation employees purposely delayed plowing streets during and after the Christmas weekend blizzard.

It now seems that there was an effort to target certain politically connected neighborhoods -- like Borough Park in Brookyn and Middle Village in Queens.

Why?

Because hard times are on the city, austerity looms for everyone -- but unionized city employees feel they should be left untouched by the pain.

That's nothing new.

But a slowdown in a grave emergency is astonishingly new -- and Mayor Bloomberg cannot let those responsible get away with such a thing.

Already, he's promising an "extensive review" of the city's storm response.

But that can only be the beginning.

Let's be frank: If sanitation wildcatters skate on this, what will other public employees do when budget constraints force the city to cut deeper elsewhere?

Or hold down salaries?

Or insist on other concessions?

As this slowdown showed, some employees couldn't care less about the pain they inflict.

Indeed, the more, the better.

>I suggest a law that any union action (stike, slowdown, etc) that jeopardizes lives will result in that union’s immediate dissolution into the private sector.

I suggest that any public union anywhere be stripped of any right to strike right from the start and work from there.

We, the public, are paying these public employees who get better wages and benefits than the average Joe, and they are organized against...us?

I had posted on a previous article on the snow that it was understandable that sanitation workers were overwhelmed by the storm.

But more and more evidence that it was a planned work slowdown is coming to light .

If this was a slowdown by Unions the Union should lose it’s recognition. It should no longer be allowed to represent city workers.

I am guessing , but I would bet that Unio dues are taken directly out of the salaries of the Union workers and sent directly to the local.

That should stop immediately. The city should no longer act to help the Union in any way nor should they recognise the Union in work matters.

So much for his presidential aspirations.

These son's of bitc%es should all go to jail. I don't even care if the laws are written in such a way that these filth did not technically run afoul of them.

We The People are the bosses in this system. The boss calls the shots. If someone does something so wrong that it enrages the boss, it should not matter if it's technically "legal." There shoud be a consequence double the proportionate insult of any given affrontery. This would provide, I believe, a sufficient deterrent to such deplorable behavior, not to mention the hugely insulting cavalier savoir faire with which these foul deeds are performed right under our noses with impunity by these ignorant, arrogant, delusional scum.

Pitchforks, axes, pikes and rope are not far behind this type of "Up yours!" poking the eyes of the general public by the Dimbec-elites. They are really pushing their luck.

;-/

I'm watching FOX news this morning. In the past hour I have seen three (3) half-minute commercials pushing one aspect or another of the new Obamacare legislation.

We told them not to pass this bill. They passed it anyway.

We voted in such a fashion as to let them know that they screwed up, and were paying the price for their disobedience. They rammed several Lame Duck "Screw You" bills through, just to let us know that we have no voice any more.

And now they are spending MILLION$ of our tax dollars to run propaganda ads selling to us the legislation we told them not to pass in the first place.

Are we idiots? Are we retards? Are we sheep? I'm starting to feel less than sanguine about this whole cluster funk. Something tells me we're being played for complete imbeciles, and using our ability to vent on sites like FreeRepublic as a substitute for stopping these bastarts cold in their tracks.

IMHO

Excellent suggestion. It is time to get tough with the thugs.

The madness will not stop until those truly guilty are punished. They are the UNIONS..Not the taxpayers and NOT the city of NY. It is a perversion of justice to do otherwise and a slap in the face to all of us. And, for those who think this would just happen in NYC..Just wait..Soon it will be coming to your town.

Nonsense. The unions are required to work in a polluted environment without adequate protection or regulation. Snow is the most poisonoius substance on earth. Its removal by other than HAZMAT protocol endangers the crews required to remove it.
In addition the difficulty of snow removal especially following a major storm puts undue pressure on workers and their equipment. Workers are simply trying to protect themselves from danger and their equipment from costly repairs.
They should be praised for their commitment to green ethics. Look for Bloomie to make awards when the dust settles.

We are idiots..We need to be out in our neighborhoods giving people the information we have about this while we have free speech..We are respected in the places where we live and I can tell you that so many are not even aware of how all this works..They do not understand the differences between our Republic, Socialism, Communism, Fascism or what have you..They are struggling to get along and survive. We need to help with that in our own communities as well. Take that power away from the thugs who want people to have to beg for crumbs from the government while they steal our money and our freedom, with the help of Union thugs and others. It is time for this to stop, hopefully, peacefully, but history tells us the outcome could be otherwise. Many feel that Obama wants an excuse to declare Marshall Law so we must work within the law. We will see whether anything will change in January when the new Congress takes over..If it does not, then I don't know what will happen.

I wonder what Giuliani would be doing if this happened on his watch.

And targeting “the rich” neighborhoods? The class warfare mob is heating up.

I just hope I love far enough away from a major city as I see similar ‘events’ occuring as the budget noose tightens.

The union snow removal threat was made in October by Harry Nespoli, president of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association.

“Look at what happened in Washington,” Nespoli continued, referring to the storm that buried the nation’s capital last year. “We don’t want that happening here up here in New York.”

I figured they made the call as soon as they heard the weather forecast; I didn’t realize it was planned so long ago.

“sound of intro to Law and Order” we see a mother crying into the phone about her baby and a EMS stuck 1 mile from the home - our investigators take statements then decide to pass along to the DA the facts...to bad this is politics and nothing happens. If it was a private industry they get a full expensive trial, but not city workers. Even TV won’t touch this story...evil is in the eye of the beholder and the left sees no evil from poor 100,000 per year union workers.

Nanny Bloomers first response to the criticism was to tell people to stop complaining and go shopping or to a Broadway show.
