Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced a new vaccine mandate for city employees on Tuesday. All employees will either have to show proof of vaccination, or be forced to undergo weekly COVID-19 tests, if they want to retain their jobs. The mayor’s announcement came as L.A. County has reported a sharp uptick in the daily average testing positivity rate, which is now over 5%, after dipping to below 1% in June. Many new cases are among the unvaccinated population.

" . . . when you're a city employee, and those thoughts, beliefs and opinions are different from the city's, you have to check them at the door." Just in case you’ve forgotten, gay rights and gay marriage won’t affect you in any way. Remember that promise? Don’t like gay marriage? Don’t enter into one. That’s all you have to do and you’re square, bro. But that was always a lie, and as we’ve discussed in this space many times, the gay marriage and gay rights movements were never really about what they claimed to be about at all. They...

The state Court of Appeals has reinstated Milwaukee's 75-year-old residency rule, which requires city employees to live within city limits. The District 1 Court of Appeals overturned a ruling by Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Paul Van Grunsven, who in January 2014 ruled that a measure signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker applied uniformly to all local governments in the state. The state law, Van Grunsven said, removed the issue of residency from the scope of home rule authority. The city has for decades required that its employees to live within Milwaukee limits. But the law signed by Walker in...

So it transpires that the city Depart ment of Investigation has been on to reports of a snow-removal slow down all week. Go to it, folks. People could have died because of the mini-mutiny -- and those responsible have much for which to answer. The Post reported yesterday that sanitation employees purposely delayed plowing streets during and after the Christmas weekend blizzard. It now seems that there was an effort to target certain politically connected neighborhoods -- like Borough Park in Brookyn and Middle Village in Queens. Why? Because hard times are on the city, austerity looms for everyone --...

News 4 WOAI is uncovering new details about the dog drownings in Jourdanton. First, WOAI has learned that the state health department is now reviewing the case and may launch an investigation, and second, the city supervisor who ordered the drownings failed the state's animal control test twice. The city supervisor, Chantan Morin got an “F” on the test in 1999 and failed again in 2000, officials said. Dr. Catherine Tull is the regional vet for the state department of health. She oversees the course. “We're probably the most comprehensive statewide available training that there is,” Tull said. The class...

Grapevine employee quits when city starts enforcing pet policy 11/30/2002 By JAIME JORDAN / The Dallas Morning News GRAPEVINE - Starsky and Hutch. Scully and Mulder. Batman and Robin. Like them, Brian Hall and Brandy are partners. The Grapevine animal control officer and his basset-beagle mix spent more than two years going on calls together and visiting schoolchildren. So when the animal shelter began enforcing a no-pets policy, Mr. Hall resigned his post after six years with the department rather than leave Brandy at home. "They were asking me to give up my dog, who is my partner," he...
