Shouts break the evening silence.

“Police! Search warrant!”

Officers burst through the door. A man appears across the room. Metal glints from his clasped hands. Shots echo from a police-issue Glock 22. Todd Blair slumps to the floor.

“Five seconds,” said Blair’s mother, Arlean. “In five seconds, he was dead.”

Officers entered Blair’s home Sept. 16 during a drug raid when he stepped into the hall, wielding a golf club, police video shows. Ogden police Sgt. Troy Burnett shot Blair, 45, in the head and chest.

The shooting was deemed legally justified.

Nobody wants to place any blame on the worthless doper in this case, who brought the problem on himself

You now want Internet support and encouragement for a dozen well armed helmeted para-military police assault team, that shot to death a guy holding a golf club at his own home?

I won't be the only one shot dead if someone tries to enter my home without knocking and showing a warrant.

You might think you are Rambo, but you are not.
No, Sir. I never claimed to be Rambo.

However, I am a citizen, and a member of the militia. My state's constitution actually makes that completely clear. It's written in the Florida constitution, "The militia shall be composed of all ablebodied inhabitants of the state who are or have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States; and no person because of religious creed or opinion shall be exempted from military duty except upon conditions provided by law."

As a citizen, and as a member of the militia, I have a responsiblity to be armed and prepared to defend myself, my family, my property, my home, and if necessary, my neighbors and my state. I take that responsibility seriously. And if someone is breaking into my home unannounced, I will defend my home and my family.

By the way, I have discussed this with my sheriff. He knows that if he sends deputies out for any reason, entering without knocking is not an option that will lead to a positive outcome.

International Association of Chiefs of Police

In November 2006, the International Association of Chiefs of Police received a $375,000 grant from the Joyce Foundation in order to "convene the Great Lakes States Summit on Gun Violence in April 2007". The report of the conference was titled "Taking a Stand: Reducing Gun Violence in Our Communities".

-- The report was produced with assistance from the Joyce Foundation's Communications Director and with contributions from gun control advocates such as Kristen Rand and Tom Diaz of the Violence Policy Center.

Do you really think that there's not a concerted effort on the part of liberals and progressives to infiltrate and destroy our law enforcement agencies from within? We need to smoke them out, not provide cover for them.

The IACP also supports the assault weapons ban and microstamping.

And the police, executing a lawful warrant, have the right to respond to deadly force with deadly force. A golf club is deadly force. Period.
Sorry I didn't include this in my previous response.

First, it's not clear the police had a warrant with them when they kicked in the door to this guy's house. I quoted the article up in my first post.

Second, the constitution doesn't contain any provisions for a "no knock" warrant. It is unreasonable to kick someone's door in to serve a lawful (and constitutionally acceptable) warrant.

Any responsible citizen, when someone kicks in their door unannounced, is justified in responding with deadly force to defend their home. Period. The "cops" in this case were acting as criminals. They were breaking into someone's house in the dead of night. No piece of paper fixes that.

If instead of a golf club, this guy had had a gun and shot one of the cops, would he have been justified?

A warrant is permission from a judge to search a place for specific items or persons. It's not a license to kick in a door and invade someone's home. Yelling "Police" in the process doesn't fix that problem. Criminals invading peoples homes illegally also have been known to yell "Police, we have a warrant, get on the floor" as they break in to rob and pillage a home and rape and kill the people who live there.

Serving a warrant means presenting it to the home owner (or whoever answers the door) prior to entering the home.

People are so quick to rationalize their rights away under the guise that somehow it will help LE catch the bad guys.

We spilled a lot of blood and exercised huge risk to win our freedom and establish a Constitution that is brilliant and people need to better understand their contract with the government and we need to stand up and enforce our rights.

The people could have surrounded the front and doors and had people watching the windows, pounded on the door announced police with warrant and waited for the front-door to be open.

This reminds me of the insane raid on the whole milk producer in Oregon...the police barged their way in while customers were there brandishing assault rifles, etc...

This police state action is just completely out of line.

A golf club is deadly force to a group of armed cops?

You truly lost all credibility.

You do realize that your linked proved my point right? Click on "death of an innocent." Since 1985 there have been 45. That's according to Cato. (Earlier CATO material said 40, they have since added 5 more including 2 this year.)

If you add up "all types" you get 357. That's since 1985, and out of several thousand no-knock raids that are conducted a year (again according to CATO.)

You just pwned yourself, as your link only confirmed what I said before. So it is you who is the liar.

It only takes one well placed strike with a club to kill someone. Moreover, the law doesn’t require an officer (or anyone else) to wait to get struck.

The overwhelming majority of law enforcement officers in this country are non-unionized. Most right to work States forbid collective bargaining by public safety employees.

The more you know.

If you don’t think a golf club is a deadly weapon, then it is you who has lost all credibility. A gun is not a magic shield. A fist can be a deadly weapon, depending on the circumstances. Learn the LEGAL definition of a deadly weapon, rather than the hollyweirdo version of what is a deadly weapon.

Well then, a quarter-cup of water can be a deadly weapon too following that absurd logic.
First and foremost to be a “deadly weapon” something must BE a weapon, it IS NOT SUFFICIENT for something to be used AS a weapon; it must be DESIGNED as a weapon.
Only then can you move on to the qualifier of ‘deadly’; working with the qualifier first as “something that COULD kill” and then expanding it to include all things which might kill which also might be used as a weapon leaves you with a truly absurd set for “deadly weapon.” {A blue whale could be deadly if dropped on someone, if dropped from a bomber as a bomb would would make it a weapon then it must be in the set... truly nonsensical.}

And the politicians are the ones who select their chief of police according to their own ideas about what law and order should be.

I live in the county, where the sheriff is an elected office. Although not a perfect system, at least the average citizen has a little more say so about who is in charge of enforcing the laws we are to live under.

The idea of anyone taking out an entire trained SWAT team who will have the element of surprise, superior firepower and numbers on their side is nothing short of laughable.

and there you have it... Element of surprise. Hence the dog. Of course my Shepard would get shot but she'd bark and scare the heck out of anybody coming in the door. She has in the past and I've never killed anybody here that tried to break in. But i'm fairly sure that anybody with a little training can protect his perimeter in a layered fashion. Starts with motion detectors and cameras at the periphery. Then roses, pyracantha, catclaw acacia and blackberry hedges under the fences and windows.

Our family alarm is our German Shepard. Finally to the doors. A video door phone activated by either motion detector and/or doorbell with internally hinged door, reinforced strike plates and security bar attached to the studs for a lock.

Then it's inside with shotgun under the bed, pistol at the night stand and in lab coat and 4 others in the house that know how to fire a pistol, shotgun and rifle. 3 girls and a boy.

Really all that people need to do to stop the drug raids is get an informer to finger a "kingpin" or soft granny crack dealer at the end of a cul de sac, set a trip wire or pressure plate on the front porch with flash bangs and as they turn around to run back out some claymores pointed towards the house from the perimeter fence or sides of the porch would finish the raid.

no Rambo, no John Wayne, no super d-duper spec operator just a guy with a little training. The reason the wannabe special operators that permeate the SWAT teams in the police forces usually don't go after real gang bangers is cause they'd get shot at. So they usually go after some little old ladies, single family dwellings with very little gang activity and go busting in like Iwo Jima or Fallujah.

Give me 4 or 5 guys, a van, some zip ties and night vision anybody worth their salt could serve a warrant without busting down the door and killing people. Turn off water, electricity, jam cellphones and just wait them out. But it just doesn't look good on TV to sit around and wait for people to come out with their hands up or people getting taken down as they come out of a grocery store, gas station, or wherever. Got to justify all that neat equipment and balaclavas. hahahahahahaha.. f'ing joke.
