I remember when Pensacola NAS had a football team and their mascot was the Goshawk whatever that is. Roger Staubach was the backup QB. Also Eglin AFB had a team called the Eglin Ealges.
I guess military bases no longer have them.
Who was the starter?
I don’t recall his name but he had been QB at Penn State. I think the reason Staubach wasn’t starting was because he had just come to Pensacola.
“Roger Staubach was the backup QB.”
He was in for a few downs when they easily beat the small college I attended...flicked what must have been a 70-yard pass with all the apparent effort of throwing a paper wad into a trash can from 6 ft. away.
The Navy and Marine Corps do not have "pilots." They have AVIATORS.
What back-desk journalista pogue wrote this? He/she ought to be flogged around the fleet.
Well well, looks like these guys are well on their way to building a presidential resume...
All levity aside, glad it appears they weren’t injured seriously.
And NACES saves more aviators!
Thanks, I never knew that was an actual bird. I always thought it was something like a Jayhawk.
Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
Neat little airplanes, they ought to “look good around the ship”. I remember one time, driving down the highway near Kingsville NAS and seeing a flight of 4 of (whatever jet trainers they were using then) in the pattern, and thinking I’m going to see a beautiful sight of these guys snapping into the approach 1-2-3-4. Heck, they looked like a bunch of sparrows scattered by a backyard tomcat. I guess it takes a while to develop that kind of precision. God bless ‘em.
Every Blue Angel started that way.
