Don't spin the Civil War
Washington Post ^ | 12.27.10 | E.J. DIONNE jR.

The Civil War is about to loom very large in the popular memory. We would do well to be candid about its causes and not allow the distortions of contemporary politics or long-standing myths to cloud our understanding of why the nation fell apart.

The coming year will mark the 150th anniversary of the onset of the conflict, which is usually dated to April 12, 1861, when Confederate batteries opened fire at 4:30 a.m. on federal troops occupying Fort Sumter. Union forces surrendered the next day, after 34 hours of shelling.

Would you care to talk about how amazingly ignorant you are of history?

Damn! You snobs are soooo easy to bait! And your cut and paste abilities rival that of non-sequitur!

Why didn't you just post the link? Slave Rebellions in America

I can tell you why. Because in your pathetic attempt to feel 'superior' to others, you felt the need to cut and paste from the website you stole the information from to appear to know that info off the cuff and put the little Southron boy in his place.

But this is good. We've established that you can use Google and cut and paste from a website.

Now, would you care to engage in a serious discussion about the War of Northern Aggression or do you simply wish to continue this charade of elitism?

Just saw your personality page and noted that you have Hardee's Corps flag and that your current favorite is Polk's Corps flag.

Have you ever been to the reenactment at Perryville? Both corps were heavily engaged in what became the largest battle in Kentucky. Outnumbered almost two-to-one, the veteran Confederates drove the inexperienced Yankees from the battlefield, but had to relenquish the fight after realizing that Buell's reinforcements (35,000 men) were only five miles away, but their own reinforcements (22,000 men) were almost sixty miles away.

They have a reenactment the first weekend of every October. This past year there were probably 250-300 reenactors and close to 5,000 spectators. I almost hate to see what it is going to be like next year on the 150th anniversary of the battle.

A few minutes after I took this photo, this reenactor was burned when all six cylinders on his pistol went off at the same time due to improper capping. He ended up with second-degree burns on his hand and wrist.

Okay, I understand now. When you said "a staple in his films," what you meant was that you kinda sorta remember seeing it in one episode, that you can't actually indentify, of the TV series he hosted, but of which he only directed 18 (out of 363) episodes, none of which have anything to do with the south.

And this is sufficient for you to come to the conclusion that "Hitch hated Southerners with a passion."

You snobs are soooo easy to bait!

So when you post your idiot remarks such as "in 200 years there was only one slave rebellion" it was really just bate and not prima facia evidence that you are ignorant of history.

Do you really expect anyone to buy that line? Really?

NS & NS#2 were banned by Free Republic. . . why should all this matter so much to you.

When I am a guest in someone's home or work areas, and they have made a rule certain persons were not be invited, I respect their wishes. I sure don't waste my time, esp. on their dime. attempting to undermine their authority by second guessing their decisions. I have more important things to do.

How about you, rockrr, do you have more important things to do? I would sure hope so.
