LONDON -- Britain's Royal Mint has released a commemorative coin featuring supposedly lifelike portraits of Prince William and his bride-to-be - but critics say Kate Middleton has a right to be horrified.
Images of the couple on the memento bear little resemblance to either the prince or his 28-year-old betrothed. Middleton appears plump in the face and lips and has bags under her eyes. Some critics claim William looks like Al Gore.
Available in silver or gold, the 5-pound ($7.70) coin marks the April 29 wedding of the second-in-line to the British throne.

Kate Middleton is pretty, but, unfortunately, doesn’t have the sparkle or flair that Diana had. You can walk through any college campus and see a million Kate Middletons. Diana had that special quality (charisma?) that captured people and it didn’t hurt that she was tall, blonde, and knew how to wear evening gowns and diamonds. Charles, the idiot, didn’t know how good she made him look when they were together. I followed Diana for years, but don’t think I will be following Kate as closely. Her hair and clothes, from what I’ve seen so far, are quite forgettable. Even her engagement ring was a disappointment, not very original. I don’t think William has to worry, like Charles did, that his wife is going to upstage him and get all of the attention. Between the two of them he has more charisma.
That is awful
Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead?
Isn’t that Diana’s ring?
LOL!!!!!!! I was thining of posting the same pic!
Yep. Kate is wearing the original but...
You are right. Kate Middleton does not have the regal bearing which Diana had.
She does look like she would be a lot more fun to be around tho.
That impression could easily be wrong as I haven’t seen her very much.
OMG, coffee out of my nose and I’m at work. Too funny.
I think because William and Kate have been an item for so many years already they may have a comfortable relationship and there is not the competition that came as a result of Charles’s insecurity. He was a hopeless mess from the git go in that area. I think at the start Princess Diana’s wardrobe was unforgettable too..it was dowdy for a young woman just in her early 20s until she came into her own sense of fashion. I agree she could carry off a gunny sack with style..she had that certain something and as you say, Charles was an idiot not to realize how good she made him look. He was just too self conscious and full of himself.
I don’t think Kate’s engagement ring is a disappointment. It is a beautiful ring and it means so much to William and rather than Charles selecting it and presenting it to Diana all those years ago, she chose it from a tray full of dazzling rings...It is an heirloom and something precious to William and as he said, it is a way to keep him mother’s memory alive and present in this happy time for him. And if Kate had an objection to wearing that famous ring I think she would have said something. And as an aside, I think it is terrific that every time that Camilla should be in the presence of Kate and William it is a reminder that Diana is very much in the picture with William and that it will serve to rather keep the old wretch in her place.
I don’t know. I suppose someone up into genealogy could find out.
When I said that Kate’s ring was a dissapointment I didn’t mean that I didn’t like the ring, but quite the opposite. Although Diana’s ring wasn’t very expensive I thought it was tasteful, unique (how many women have a sapphire engagement ring?), and dramatic. And, since she chose it herself from an assortment of rings, it revealed a little bit about herself.I think it would have been interesting to see what kind of ring Kate would have chosen, that’s all. But, since William supposedly surprised her with it when he proposed, she never got the chance and she certainly couldn’t turn her nose up to it when he gave it to her.
But I do love your observation about Camilla and the ring.LOL! I hadn’t thought about that scenario!
I wonder if William did? It was reported he used to hear his mom crying in the bathroom when he was a little boy and would try to comfort her.
I don’t know how any son or daughter could wish his Step mother or step father much happiness when that person was part of the other parents misery.
Harry looks a lot like his maternal uncle.
Harry doesn’t look like any of the royals. He lacks that ‘inbred’ look about him.
I have always thought he looks more like a Spencer..his aunt, Diana’s sister, had red hair. And I always thought he looked a bit like his maternal Grandfather the Earl Spencer, Diana’s father. I wonder what his Uncle Charles Spencer looked like as a kid?
Another reason to like William and Kate: They had the good sense to NOT invite the Obamas to the wedding! The last thing Kate needs is these two narcissists showing up to upstage the bride and groom.
I agree. I think it is a hoot that they are not on the list.
After the way they behaved when with the Queen, that duo would have embarrassed themselves but our nation as well.. And can you imagine Moochelle wearing some white fancy dress with a boob belt and those too small sweaters and what would she do for a hat? Prolly one of those African hats that when worn with the matching dress on the African women who know how to wear their traditional dress would be interesting. But the Wookie would embarrass that traditional dress as well.
Besides the bride and groom are not interested in hearing his Marxist speaches..or hear Moochelle talk about organic foods...the ol Prince Chuck can fill the royal newlywed ears full of that.
