US Rep. Conyers reimburses $5,682 for son's unofficial use of government Escalade in Detroit
On Thursday December 23, 2010, 12:54 pm EST
DETROIT (AP) -- Taxpayers have been repaid for the time Detroit Congressman John Conyers' son spent using a government vehicle.
The U.S. Treasury Department was reimbursed $5,682, the House Judiciary chair said in a statement Wednesday.
Conyers said the amount was based on the daily use of the Cadillac Escalade by his 20-year-old son, John Conyers III, over the Thanksgiving holiday. He announced that his son used the sport utility vehicle after a report of a theft from the Escalade registered in the name of Conyers' congressional district.
His son reported two laptops worth $1,100 each and $27,500 worth of concert tickets stolen from the parked vehicle, according to Detroit police.
Conyers said it's unlikely that the amount of time his son used the vehicle was as high as the amount given to the Treasury Department, but he wanted to be "sure that there is no cost to the taxpayers whatsoever for any possible non-official use of the car."
**SNIP**
The police probe into the theft from the Escalade continues. None of the stolen items were government property, Conyers said.

I still say, why dos conyers have use of a government Escalade? In fact, why does the government have escalades in its motor pool?

More elitist Commie'RAT corruption. We "little people" need to mind our own business and not get involved in what the our gracious public servants are doing with OUR money. We're all so lucky that they have dedicated their lives to looking out for us. The "little people".

Why do I suspect his son’s use of the car would not have come to light except for the theft?

It is amazing how many expensive SUVs are used by the Government around here in the DC area yet up in the northern tier bases certain units that really need a basic four wheel drive vehicle are not authorized to have one.

All members of congress get to lease a car of their choise at our expense.
Is this a great country or what ?
To: Libloather
Well yeah, but ain’t it a low down dirty shame that the honorable congress critter has to deal with $hit like this. He and his marxist elitists comrades have more work to do as enemys of freedom.

I suspect he was a bulk buyer scalping them later on for a huge (unreported) profit.
