As 2010 draws to a close, and we review the Obama administration's "accomplishments" I think most conservatives would agree that his policies have had the effect of a giant wrecking ball on the Republic. But one thing he has done, and it was purely incidental to the mischief he has made, was to reawaken a sleeping giant, one that has been dormant for nearly three quarters of a century...the Constitution of the United States. Obama's usurpations have roused, and are educating, the vast heretofore apolitical American electorate to the fact that the Constitution is a RESTRAINT on the powers of the central government vis a vis the states and the people, not a LICENSE to usurp those rights. It is the elites who ignore and despise the Constitution in much the same way they ignore and despise ordinary Americans in flyover country.
Obama's usurpations have established the fault lines for the 2012 election. 2012 will not be an election "around the margins", a garden variety election where the calibration of tax rates and spending are matched one against the other. It will be about the Constitution and the protection of the American people from the elites who have seized control of the two political branches, Executive and Legislative. And the capitulation of the GOP leadership in the lameduck session demonstrates that the elites will maintain significant, if not complete, control over the incoming Congress as well. The GOP leadership in Congress has shown itself an unreliable and timid ally in this struggle.
In establishing the fault lines for the 2012 election--Constitutional versus elitist-- Obama has unwittingly chosen his opponent as well--Sarah Palin. Moreover, the collaboration with (and indeed capitulation to) Obama by the GOP leadership in the lameduck session suggests that the GOP Establishment fears her and the new Tea Party Senators and Congressmen she helped elect MORE than it fears Obama, Reid and Pelosi.
Palin's strategy must be to run against not only Obama but the GOP Establishment as well. She is not free to make common cause with them, as most GOP nominees have done, even after she is nominated. To do so would threaten her hold on the majority of the people who do not want to be protected by the Government but demand to be protected FROM the Government. She is uniquely poised to forge a new governing coalition that will not be a zero sum game that tries (as the Bushes, Doles, McCains and Fords have done) to "move to the middle" to gain enough votes to eke out a majority. Her strategy will be to clearly articulate Constitutional principles and the pledge to use the Constitution as a buckler and shield to protect the American people from the Government. She will thus not "move to the middle" but will rather "attack the flanks" of the Democrat coalition, appealing to lower middle class voters, especially single women, who have never voted Republican but who feel disenfranchised by the tone deaf elites in Washington, who can receive a thrashing in November but go right back to business as usual in December. I believe she is setting the backdrop for this strategy in the TLC Alaska series, and she is doing so brilliantly.
This election is shaping up as Palin versus Obama. But, even more importantly, it is shaping up as a battle between the elites of both parties and the people and their Constitution, people who had never appreciated the Constitution and had never voted for a Republican before but who, thanks to Obama's usurpations, are going to do both en masse in 2012. Ironically, Obama's signal accomplishment from a conservative perspective, reawakening reverence for the Constitution, is the very one which will prove to be his undoing.
Ping!
Why do the elites hate Palin? She didn’t abort Trig.

I pray every day that I get to see the teleprompter-less Obama debate the..... notes-on-the-hand Palin.
He’ll be exposed for the empty suit he is.
Voting for obama is like building a house on a frozen lake.
In the springtime before break-up.
No matter how well you build it, paint it, or fill it with items of luxury inevitably it will sink.

We sent pocket Constitutions with our Christmas Cards this season. They are a big hit.
That is the all time coolest idea I ever heard!
BTTT
I called it the heavyweight championship of the century.
I also call it as a Hobson’s choice for conservatives.
It’s either abandon principle or common sense and vote for a moderate to appease the MSM or a conservative who can’t win respectively or stick to principle and vote for a Reagan conservative that is a legitimate first-tier candidate.
While it is true that the elites hate her, it is not true that she represents constitutionally limited government. Her record as Governor of Alaska and support for the Bush backed TARP proposal does not support that notion. She has positioned herself in that role after the rise of the Tea Party, but it is a new one for her and I am not convinced that it fits her ideologically.
It was a regular practice of President Ronald Reagan to outline his speeches on 3 X 5 note cards, arrange them in numbered order, and refer to them as needed when delivering his speech. And now, some mind-numb critics claim to think it unacceptable for a speaker to write a few key points on his/her hand for easy reference??!! Sad.
Pocket Constitutions. What a great idea!! I wish we had thought of that.
Well, we like Sarah Palin but have not been high on the idea of electing her President. Over the past several weeks we are coming around to the idea that we may need to elect someone who is completely outside the Elitist circle. Hopefully she will surround herself with smart advisors. If she would swear to appoint John Bolton Secretary of State and Peter Schiff US Treasury Secretary I would now vote for her in a heartbeat.
Sarah Palin’s first major act in Wasilla as mayor was to ELIMINATE property taxes on individuals’ properties thus ENDING their slavery.
Who else EVER did that??????
