President Barack Obama, addressing a tribal nations conference at the White House last week, announded that the U.S. government is now supporting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People, which includes a sweeping declaration that "indigenous peoples" have a right to lands and resources they traditionally occupied or "otherwise used."
"Indigenous peoples have the right to the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned, occupied or otherwise used or acquired," says the U.N. resolution.
The Bush administration had declined to support the resolution.
At the White House Tribal Nations Conference, Obama reminded the group that last year he signed a resolution passed by Congress that finally recognizes the sad and painful chapters in our shared history--a history too often marred by broken promises and grave injustices against the First Americans, he said.
The president added that no statement can undo the damage that was done, but he said the resolution can help reaffirm the principles that should guide our future.

Yup. I would like my family properties back in the Baltics, which Communist-sympathizer FDR handed over to the Communists. Along with that, I would like reparations and restoration of all gold, guns, careers, cancers-caused-by-stress-of-fighting-the pinkos, etc.
Just leave a light on eh. And if that guy comes around saying he owns it all because he put a copralite on deposit, call the cops. I fur shur don't want stuff messed up.
The Ojibway get Sioux territories. The Cherokee and Choctaw get Tennessee ~ nobody gets Carolina.
In the meantime the Sa'ami continued to exist in Europe, and I'm sure if they could have gotten here they would have ~ and probably did right down to about 8500 BC when there was another serious rise in the sea level.
For all we know they may have continued to come in from Asia ~
This is wonderful. I can’t wait to claim my piece of the Old Sod in Scotland (where my ancestors were expelled from their land) and Ireland (where my ancestors were starved from their land). (sarcasm off)
The smallpox story didn’t happen. We live in the United States ~ not Great Britain.
"The oldest human remains found in the Americas were recently "discovered" in the storeroom of Mexico's National Museum of Anthropology. Found in central Mexico in 1959, the five skulls were radiocarbon dated by a team of researchers from the United Kingdom and Mexico and found to be 13,000 years old. They pre-date the Clovis culture by a couple thousand years, adding to the growing evidence against the Clovis-first model for the first peopling of the Americas."
"Of additional significance is the shape of the skulls, which are described as long and narrow, very unlike those of modern Native Americans.
My great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandmother was expelled from Port Royal in L’Acadie (now Nova Scotia) in 1755 (by the English - not the Scots). There’s some nice property near Port Royal. Would make a great spot for my new cottage.
I have read a couple of the popular books about the history of the Jews but I am no expert. I solidly support Israel against the terrorists who want their land.
...on TV in Prime Time!!!
BTW, the Sa'ami claim is based much more on DNA found among Indian tribes than just the foundations of the visible Solutrean/Clovis culture. The DNA says 14,000 ~ right at the start of the big meltdown. It may even be earlier. Their initial settlements are covered by water, so that's where you get that apparent 2000 year lag.
I had an ancestor present at the Thanksgiving Feast held in 1598 at Bar Harbor. That was before the big move across the Bay of Fundy to Port Royal.
Several other ancestors were picked up rowing a boat off shore several hundred miles.
Hardy folks eh.
I saw something on a program on NatGeo a few months ago regarding these skulls. I’m endlessly amazed that so many in the research community can’t grasp that people have been going wherever they wanted to go ever since they figured out that wood floats and can be piloted with oars, never mind that exploration and trading is probably hard-wired in all humans from day one.
Interestingly, Caribs and other tribes in the Americas tied boards to the skulls of babies to elongate them, which they considered a mark of the upper class.
Adam and Eve were indigenous to Eden and then they moved. After that, everything (except Eden) was up for grabs.
So when will the Palestinians move into their native Jordan?
BTW, I knew an Albanian in college who was indigenous to Gary/Hammond/East Chicago ~ that was one of their major settlement centers in those days ~ Gary had had a Greek guy as mayor for many years but when he got sent to prison the Albanians and blacks started duking it out for hegemony up and down the beer joints on that main drag in front of US Steel.
“You get Mexico”
Well, someone certainly should have Mexico other than the feckless bunch that has it now-like someone with the cojones to bury the drug cartels by whatever means is needed-like rounding them up and making them play a game of soccer in the old Aztec style-where the losing team has its’ members sacrificed...
They are easily mistaken for Japanese ~ by Japanese, and Japanese are frequently mistaken for El Salvadoran by El Salvadorans.
Apparently people have been getting on boats over in japan and getting caught in Pacific storms that drag them up to Alaska and down the West Coast of the Americas ~
They land. They survive. They're still there.
One of the major landing sites is in Costa Rica ~ recent graves found there are remarkably similar to the sort of thing you can find the old timers in Japan doing (circa 1200 give or take a few hundred years either side).
We need some recombinant DNA science to take over the battle ~ first it'd turn all the dope into high protein sports drink supplements. Secondly, it'd infect the narcotrafficantes and turn them into priests and nuns.
My tribal name is Runs With Scissors.
