A dash cam video from the officer who shot and killed Native American woodcarver John T. Williams was released Friday, showing Williams ambling slowly across the street in a crosswalk before the officer opens fire.

Shot in the BACK four times? For crying out loud, this is cold blooded murder.
It is looking like this cop is gonna do some serious time. At least based on this info coupled with the video.

Well, a man with a knife can travel 21 feet in a second, or something like that, how fast can a man with a knife backpedal? Hey, police academy is HARD!/s
I wonder. Is it against the law to carry a knife and whittle wood? If so we are done for as a country. Very sad situation indeed. Blessings to John’s family. How devastating. The Native American wood carvers make a huge contribution to the culture in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest in general.
I don’t need to see a video to know police have no right to harass someone who is simply walking alone down a street. The mere fact that someone is holding a knife is also not grounds for shooting them.
What possible explanation could you come up with to justify this?

Apparently starting to tun around is what set the cop off.
The short time frame between the orders from the cop followed by the firing of the gun, coupled with the autopsy showing the guy died from four gunshot wounds IN THE BACK do not bode well for the cop.
Citizens have more freedom in using deadly force than cops do, and if this were a citizen, based on the evidence we have, he would probably be locked up for decades.
I also suspect the cop knew who this guy was before he stopped the car.
He shot him in the back? Wow. Just wow. That is all out murder. There will be protests in the streets tomorrow or next week.

This is the money line in this thread. Well, that, and the FACT that the guy was not even facing the cop when he was shot.
Interesting how the cops bring up this guys past.
Years ago, there used to be this fellow who was involved in some specialty martial-arts type training. I should hesitate to call it that, because he was a huge Nordic type. And the “martial arts” was some kind of sword training.
He used to wander around all the time with a REAL broadsword hanging on his back. That sucker must have weighed 25 pounds if it weighed an ounce.
I mean we’re talking about a huge dude, who knew how to use it, and had a weapon that he probably have took down a small Douglas fir in no time if he felt like it.
He got profiled on the local news once or twice.
Never got shot in the back, IIRC.

Nope. I had to watch the first 40 seconds over and over to be sure my initial reaction was correct. Just finished watching the whole reel and did hear them congratulate him. I don’t blame them. They are brothers and like the one cop said everyone goes home.
I’ll bet on reflection with this tape they sure don’t feel he is a brother anymore.
Guy is a murderer. Bottom line.
Is that the guy that resulted in a ten hour standoff downtown and when a cop finally DID shoot him people were all over the cop?
I was pissed at the cops that time because they DIDN’T shoot the guy. Heck, how long does it take to get an elephant dart gun?

Not only did the cop shoot the victim only SEVEN seconds after yelling, “Hey!” But the police say the shooting took place at a distance of nine to ten feet!
That knife didn’t look anywhere near nine to ten feet in length to me...
