The last time Bradley Manning saw the world outside of a jail, most Americans had never heard of WikiLeaks. On Friday, Manning, the man whose alleged unauthorized release of hundreds of thousands of classified documents put the website and its controversial leader, Julian Assange, on the map, turns 23 behind bars. Since his arrest in May, Manning has spent most of his 200-plus days in solitary confinement...his attorney, David Coombs, revealed key details about Mannings imprisonment and kind gestures from his family that provided a bit of comfort in the inmate's otherwise extremely harsh incarceration....
Manning asked for a list of books, which his family bought for him... Decision Points, by George W. Bush Critique of Practical Reason, by Immanuel Kant Critique of Pure Reason, by Immanuel Kant Propaganda, by Edward Bernayse The Selfish Gene, by Richard Dawkins A Peoples History of the United States, by Howard Zinn The Art of War, by Sun Tzu The Good Soldiers, by David Finkel On War by Gen. Carl von Clausewitz
Manning is being held at Marine Corps Base Quantico, in Virginia. He spends 23 hours a day alone in a standard-sized cell, with a sink, a toilet, and a bed. He isnt allowed sheets or a pillow, though First Lieutenant Brian Villiard, an officer at Quantico, said he is allowed bedding of non-shreddable material...
For an hour every day, a television is wheeled in front of his cell and hes allowed to watch TV, including news...
The conditions under which Bradley Manning is being held would traumatize anyone...He lives alone in a small cell, denied human contact. He is forced to wear shackles when outside of his cell, and when he meets with the few people allowed to visit him, they sit with a glass partition between them...

Sounds like he’s being treated the same as any other prisoner in a Supermax prison.
What’s the big deal?? I’d rather see all Supermax prisoners at hard labor.
I’d like to know how a PFC with seven years service (that in itself is weird) had access to highly classified documents. Who the hell was his CO ?
People above Manning have to be involved
The question of whether Wikileaks is an anti-American conspiracy is not relevant to the case of Bradley Manning. What Manning is accused of doing is morally wrong, illegal and treasonous, regardless of to whom he passed this information, and what was done with it.
the entire article never mentions him being an angry faggot
which is the whole reason he leaked
and his prison time ain’t jack....i could do that on my hands
When I was in, rank had nothing to do with clearance level. If I had the proper clearance and the need to know, then I was allowed access. The system that allowed this should be on trial, as well. Not only that, but those who completed this traitor's background check and didn't notice anything about his lifestyle choice should be in prison right along side him. It was apparently very well known in his high school and hometown that he putted from the rough.
A significant part of obtaining a clearance is that you have nothing in your history that would allow you to be blackmailed by others, as well as your loyalty to country. Since it's hard to verify loyalty, then the true search should be anything he could be blackmailed over - that would most certainly include his perversion.
What about his superiors or supervisors responsible for managing this guy? Why is no one else in the brig for this crime. I find it hard to believe that this guy all by himself is left without any supervision to access and download hundreds of thousands of documents with no alert going off. Conspiracy?
Could be another ‘Bobby Brown.”
It’s not exactly Devil’s Island. It’s not even Sheriff Arapaio’s pink boxers jail. “Only” an hour of TV? Get the waaaahhm-bulance.
Hahaha! The little traitor is in the brig at the “Q”!!!
I can’t think of a better place for that twerp than behind bars and guarded by Marines!!! Sucks to be him!
Semper Fi!!!
IIRC, PFC Manning wasn't complying with DADT. He was EXTROVERTLY GAY. He did what he could to annoy his superiors and tried to embarrass them using the media.
THAT is likely the reason he stayed a PFC.
Why hasn’t he been executed yet?
Not to mention the treatment Obama gets as a traitor...

The first thing I remember knowing,
Was a lonesome whistle blowing,
And a young un’s dream of growing up to ride;
On a freight train leaving town,
Not knowing where I’m bound,
No-one could change my mind but Mama tried.
One and only rebel child,
From a family, meek and mild:
My Mama seemed to know what lay in store.
Despite all my Sunday learning,
Towards the bad, I kept on turning.
‘Til Mama couldn’t hold me anymore.
And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole.
No-one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried.
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading, I denied.
That leaves only me to blame ‘cos Mama tried.
Instrumental break.
Dear old Daddy, rest his soul,
Left my Mom a heavy load;
She tried so very hard to fill his shoes.
Working hours without rest,
Wanted me to have the best.
She tried to raise me right but I refused.
And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole.
No-one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried.
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading, I denied.
That leaves only me to blame ‘cos Mama tried.
You knew hed be a reader of Howard Zinn. Maybe “The Won” will send him an autographed copy of Alinsky.
Zinn will reinforce his self-image as the victim of his own treason....
From what I understand these conditions are luxurious compared to what the soldier experienced in military prisons several decades ago.
