A pair of blustery, soaking storms will stream into Northern California beginning Friday, bringing as much as 10 inches of rain south and east of the Bay Area by Christmas Day and setting up potentially difficult travel conditions for those escaping for the holidays.
Though computer weather models differ on the exact trajectory and strength of the two separate weather systems, meteorologists are bracing for sizable amounts of rain and the possibility that some rivers might overrun their banks.
"No matter how you slice it, it's going to be a significant weather event," said Rob Hartman, lead hydrologist with the National Weather Service's California-Nevada River Forecast Center. "If it comes in heavy and warm, it will be a bigger flood event. But the real wild card is the freezing level."

Just cut down Hwy 395 to Carson City and then take Hwy 50 over the crest. Much easier than dealing with the flatlanders and truckers on I-80.

Up here in the Oregon Territory, finally ONE dry day after wet, wet, wet, with more rain predicted starting tomorrow night through Tuesday. Not to mention a tornado on Tuesday that ripped through the small town of Aumsville, 10 miles southeast of Salem. Destroyed half the town. Thankfully, no deaths, no serious injuries.
I know that route. It is worth considering. I love Tahoe. I’ll make that call Mon morning. Thanks!
I don’t know about the A part of AGW, but I suspect this very large weather system is cause by warmer than usual Pacific Ocean temperatures putting more moisture into the atmosphere. As I said, don’t know if caused by sun or people, but it is happening.
I did Donner Summit yesterday am (on my Road King) after
waiting for two days in Colfax.
Pavement was wet but free of snow. Problem is all the
traffic, clutch hand is sore. Bike is filthy. Never so
glad to get to Boomtown!
Happens every few years. Nothing really unusual about it. In fact, “normal” weather is nothing more than the mathematical average of above normal and below normal conditions...which are common. “Normal” conditions are actually quite rare.

I hear ya. I’ve been in bumper to bumper traffic over the pass on sunny days/dry pavement. Never figured out why. Traffic would all of a sudden open up.
Last year, I crossed the pass during snow (maybe 4 inches and still falling). No problem. At least that was what I said to my wife. As soon as I finished the sentence, I ran over a bungee cord and the hook punctured my right front tire...about 1 mile short of the summit. That was fun. This time, I’ll keep my mouth shut until I am through...

Looks to be a messy one,, it doesn’t sound like a cold set of systems so no telling where the water will end up .. gonna be some nice snowpack either way..

The worst Pineapple Express I saw included a continuous 100-hour, round-the-clock downpour that left debris in the treetops up around the Russian River.
The painting of my house in preparationn for selling it and getting out was delayed by six weeks of daily rain.
I knew that, what I was referring to was whether it was a natural aspect or human generated. Apparently particulate polution from Europe may have been causing severe drought in northern Africa (Sahel) several decades ago. Since it has been cleaned up the droughts have been much less severe. It will take a lot more research and data collection to answer some of these arguments.
Bundle up everything on the grounds of the vast Bender estate.
There are so many variables with climate that we can’t control but from what I have read we do exert a very minuscule amount of influence. Whether the change with the Sahel is a result of Europe cleaning itself up or just simply fluctuations in the climate I don’t know.
