What happened to gym shorts? Looks like the players where wearing dresses!
You knew it would be one of the privilaged class who thought the ref had dissed him.

From the article; "The player has reportedly been removed from the team and may be facing expulsion as well as legal ramifications." Yep, I think assault and battery comes to mind. It's on video and a LEO was courtside.

I imagine a lot of people who would otherwise enjoy being a referee will find another hobby now.

That referee made the wrong call - the guy in the red was pushing himself on the kid in white. - all the kid did was push that guy in the red off of him.

"You knew it would be one of the privilaged class who thought the ref had dissed him." The ref DID diss him - BUT, the kid took it too far.

The red guy was pushing the ‘white’ guy, but the ‘white’ guy pushed the red in retaliation after the whistle blew. I think that calls for a technical. But to sum it up, it’s our usual Amish behavior.

I have never seen a more blatant example of over the top behavior by a white player.

The official called a technical not a personal. I suspect that is because he saw the player in white strike the player in red. Maybe he hit him with his fore arm or maybe an open hand or maybe a fist, I could not tell but I can see why the official called what he did. I do agree with you that he wanted the kid off him or out of his way.
As for the kid, I think he should be removed from the team. Basketball is an extra curricular activity. I think he should voluntarily apologize to the official. I think he should not be expelled from school. As for legal actions, certainly he could be prosecuted, but I think the people closest to this situation are the ones to figure out if he is a bad guy and should have the book thrown at him or is basically a good kid who let the heat of athletic competition get to him.
