MINNEAPOLIS A storm that spanned parts of eight states continued to dump heavy snow in the upper Midwest on Sunday, collapsing the Metrodome in Minneapolis and forcing numerous road closures.
The storm was moving eastward a day after it dumped 20 inches of snow in some places. A Sunday NFL football game between the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings had already been pushed to Monday because the Giants couldn't get to Minneapolis to play when the inflatable Metrodome collapsed Sunday. It's uncertain when that game will now be played.
A blizzard warning was in effect Sunday for Chicago and much of northern Illinois, all of Iowa, large sections of southern Minnesota and Wisconsin, and smaller areas in North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri and Michigan, according to the National Weather Service. Most of the rest of the region was under a winter storm warning or a hard freeze watch.
Wisconsin authorities issued a statewide no-travel advisory Saturday, citing blizzard and winter storm warnings in nearly every county.

Yes, increased precipitation...more snowfall...but you can’t say for sure this event is because of global warming. There was lots of snowfall in the Upper Midwest anyway.
Listen to you...LOL!!!
Football is to be played outdoors in all kinds of weather. It's what separates it from the other sports.
Don't get me started on the rules created to protect the player...LOL!!!
They say that they intend on playing it in Detroit. Now I would bet they will have a nice trip down there. No way in hell would I want to get on a plane and take off in this kind of weather. So that leaves a few buses..have a nice trip fellas.
True , but our “leaders” are not interested in science.
This happened at least once before. A few days prior to the Dallas/Minnesota game in 1982, the roof failed. It wasn’t as bad as today’s collapse. The crews managed to patch the roof and re-inflate it. The game was a Monday night affair and the field was still wet from the snow melt. Dallas lost badly that night but Tony Dorsett set an all-time record with his 99 yard touchdown run.
The video shown on Fox’s pre game show of today’s collapse was neat to watch. A slow motion disaster. It looks bad enough to move Minnesota’s Monday night game on the 20th somewhere else.
What kind of idiot uses steam and hot water to get rid of snow in an industrial environment? They should’ve used propylene glycol.
Video of collapse:
How many do they expect to show up in Detroit?
Is this only to keep from paying out refunds to existing ticket holders?
Once again, driven by TV.
We are currently in the 11,000 year of a warming trend, about 1,000 years past the normal cycle. When the cooling period hits it goes for 90,000 years. So count your blessings.
These cycles are due to:
1. Orbital Mechanics
2. Heating/cooling of the sun
3. Earth internals,
4. Space aliens
I have spoken!
? Why not just drop by the local sporting goods store in MPLS? The average store there is likely to have a better selection of cold weather gear than any store in NJ. I bet either the Vikings or UofM staff would direct them to a decent shop.
But you are right, lack of long-johns is not a realistic excuse.
Then they can’t build the strcuture. You can’t build buildings that collapse under snow load. That is what they do with inflatable structures, OK?
“Global warming doing its thing?”
It’s climate change silly - didn’t you get the memo?
“Global Warming is ruining football.”
That’ll be the ad at the next AGW summit - right after the little girl screaming while barely hanging onto the tree branch. What a bunch of manipulative liars these people are.
“Fact is, this might have happened even without global warming.”
Fact is, we don’t know what the facts are. Kind of a hard system to model, donthcha think? We’ve seen ample proof of that from the liars and snake oil salesmen piling into specious modeling (fake hockey stick data anyone?).
Yup, reminds me of those guys in the old West that would roll into town with a ‘rain machine.’ All you have to do is pay me $10,000 (probably $10M equivalent at that time) - and this wonderful weather machine can be YOURS!!
They should have used Global Warming. Unfortunately it’s all gone.
It was so cold I saw a democrat with his hands in his own pockets.
UPDATE: The game will be played at Ford Field in Detroit

I hope nobody got hurt. Prayers to the folks in Minnesota that they are safe from this Winter storm.
