Franklin Graham Returns to Haiti (with Sarah Palin--Pics!)
Samaritan's Purse Today ^ | December 11, 2010 | Samaritan's Purse

Posted on 12/11/2010 12:10:27 PM PST by Virginia Ridgerunner

Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham returned to Haiti today to survey our work with cholera patients, hand deliver Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts to hurting children, visit shelter communities we built in the aftermath of the January earthquake, tour our rubble removal activities, and debrief with staff on water, sanitation, shelter, targeted feeding, training programs, and 2011 needs.

Samaritan’s Purse teams have been working in Haiti since the country was devastated by a deadly earthquake in January. Still struggling to recover from the quake, the Haitian people have more recently suffered from the growing cholera epidemic that has already claimed more than 2,000 lives and from the hurricane that pummeled the island nation in November.

“I don't know of any people in recent years who have suffered more, and in such a short period of time than the people of this small country—with an earthquake, a hurricane, and now a cholera epidemic,” Graham said.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is accompanying Graham on the trip.

"I am pleased that Gov. Palin will accompany us on a brief trip to Haiti this weekend, and I appreciate her willingness to visit Haiti during such troubled times,” Graham said. “I believe Gov. Palin will be a great encouragement to the people of Haiti and to the organizations, both government and private, working so hard to provide desperately needed relief."

He looks more and more like his father every day. And what’s wrong with Governor Sarah Palin bringing the publicity that follows her everywhere to the poor, stricken people of Haiti? This is bigger than Mr. Obama, Secretary Clinton, President Clinton or Vice President Biden visiting there.

Most of these people wouldn’t be caught dead in Haiti with truly needy people like this. They might show up at a soup kitchen in New York to shovel Government Gruel to the entitlement class for a photo op during the campaign — but REAL people in need?! What, and ruin the manicure? Why, one can’t wear Manolo Blahnik’s to Haiti! No — those folks will get the Treasury to send Haiti money — Taxpayers money! LOTS of it! Then they will feel GOOD about themselves — and be able to look down their noses at Sarah, Franklin and the rest of us with their smug, superior, moralistic, self-righteous attitudes....

Oh how naive you are. Their presence there will bring in 100x the response and supplies of their body weight.

When the popularity of relief to Haiti subsided. People like Franklin Graham and his ministries are there. And the Grahams know how important Sarah’s presence there is needed.

Governor Palin on Haiti: "I've Really Enjoyed Meeting this Community"

By Ian Lazaran

Governor Palin said the following about the Haiti visit:
I've really enjoyed meeting this community...They are so full of joy. We are so fortunate in America and we are responsible for helping those less fortunate. Samaritan's Purse is still here doing the tough work.

The link above has a ton of pictures.

Do you know what Samaratians Purse does every December?

Guess not or you would’nt have made that remark.

During the Fall, hundreds of churches and individuals prepare shoe boxes full of gifts for children all over the world that would normally receive nothing for Christmas.

Volunteers travel to the Graham HQ in North Carolina to pack the boxes, other volunteers travel with the delivery groups to hand out the gift boxes.

Educate yourself next time.

“Pictures of Palin or sean Penn accomplish nothing but publicity”

“I know from experience that what they need is medicines and water purification tablets”

Sure. But how many people are donating money or supplies for Haiti a year after the disaster? For many donors, Haiti is old news.

How many pounds of relief supplies will be donated delivered or paid for by donations for Haiti spurred by publicity? Calling attention to a cause or to people in need is how famous people use their fame to help others.

Sarah's visit to Haiti will lead to a surge in donations, just as her appearance at political events leads to surges in support for selected candidates.

When was the last time Bill Clinton was in Haiti? Sarah was in Haiti being photographed in the refugee camps, those photographs being flashed around the world, showing the desperate situation of the people, while Bubba was usurping Barry at the WH briefing room?

Sean Penn- he has no similar star quality. How much has he raised for his causes? His infamous photo trying to bail out a leaky boat to deliver “relief supplies” in New Orleans- led to ridicule. But at least he tried, even if he is an idiot.

Publicity helps a good cause and leads to donations that buy those medicines and supplies.

That's why Moochelle and Barry spent some family vacation time visiting refugees in Haiti and using Air Force One to deliver supplies...

Oh. Wait.

Educate yourself about Haiti relief. I know from personal experience there that every unnecessary body on the plane simply means another 150-200 pounds of needed life-saving materiel stays in the warehouse. That is inescapable fact.

I also know from personal experience that there is no shortage of willing people to distribute the material already on the ground there.

Sarah, Todd and Bristol did not accomplish anything but keep supplies off the plane. This was nothing but a shameless photo-op for the palin brand....no different than sean penn's PR nonsense trips.

Sorry but Sean Penn was in Haiti within weeks of the quake while there were still daily after shocks. I know the guy who flew him in and provided security. Penn acted like a pompous, protected asshat but we know that that’s his style. I don’t respect him or his attention grabbing disaster visit antics. But I’m not going to pretend that Palin’s visit is any different.

Ask the parents of the children who do not have clean water to drink if they would rather have water purification tablets or a photo-op with Bristol Palin. I think (hope) that you know what the answer would be.

Neither you nor the other cultists here have any real-world, first hand knowledge of what is going on in Haiti or what is needed. I do. And, it is not a visit from Palin or any other celebrity.

If it had been Michelle making the visit you would accurately condemn it as nothing but a photo-op. It is absolute hypocrisy to pretend that this is any different.

....And, it is not a visit from Palin or any other celebrity. .....

We can assume from this post that not only are you ignorant but like to persist in a state of ignorance. Learning is not in the cards for one with a pat hand

You glom on to photo op but miss the reason.......knowledge. Learning about a near Biblical disaster is a very useful opportunity for a potential president.

Too funny. Water purification tablets? I've got enough chlorine on my truck to purify a small lake. Maybe on her next globe-trotting adventure, Nancy in her AF Jet could drop some off- I'll give her a warehouse phone number.

I wouldn't discount what a Palin-Franklin visit might mean in terms of 'political purification' and 'spiritual purification'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Haiti isn't a beacon of democracy, is it? And then there's the voodoo that you do.(sorry, couldn't help it)

Fess-up brother buzz, you got Miss Cleo on speed dial?
