New "Narnia" Film Stirs Religious Controversy [Aslan represents Mohammed too]
ABC News ^ | 12/9/10 | Paul Bond

The studios behind the new "Narnia" movie are walking a tightrope in their quest to promote the third film in the fantasy franchise to a Christian audience and to general moviegoers.

But they also are going out of their way not to pigeonhole the film as something that will appeal just to the world's 2.2 billion Christians.

Case in point is Liam Neeson, who voices Aslan, the resurrected lion in the upcoming film. The actor said at a news conference last week that his character doesn't necessarily represent Christ. That might be news to Lewis, though, who wrote the opposite before he died in 1963.

"Aslan symbolizes a Christlike figure, but he also symbolizes for me Mohammed, Buddha and all the great spiritual leaders and prophets over the centuries," Neeson said.

"Dawn Treader" producer Mark Johnson agrees with the, shall we say, more inclusive analysis from Neeson, telling The Hollywood Reporter that "resurrection exists in so many different religions in one form or another, so it's hardly exclusively Christian."

"We don't want to favor one group over another ... whether these books are Christian, I don't know," Johnson added.

The Left never has felt constrained by the truth, have they.

“what the idiotic actor is saying doesn’t have anything to do with how the film was made”

No but it does though. They picked an extremist leftist to play a mjor part. That tells me a lot about the makers, and they won’t be getting my money.

hmmm... you had me confused with your quote there...

I guess you were quoting someone in the article.
And I agree with you - there are no physical SELF resurrections in any other religion.

Muhammed did not perform miracles, and he’s rotting in the ground. His “revelations” could be categorized as “fits” or “drug induced” or perhaps even demonic.

I agree. Like most actors, the man is a moron. This mohammed died like any other man - and stayed that way. Only One rose and lives. “That Rock Is Gonna Roll” is my take on the only really important event in all of human history.

I boycott all Liam Neeson movies since he played Alfred Kinsey.

See my earlier post. Also once you sell the property, it belongs to the buyer.

“Resurrection exists in so many other religions.” Really, name one.

The pagan instances were attributed by Lewis got God's loving care, not leaving the pagans in complete darkness, so that they might more easily embrace the Gospel: he described all pre-Christian myths of dying and rising gods as "good dreams".

Read Darwin Porter´s Hells Angels about Howard Hughes. Apparently everyone in Hollywood is homosexual.

Agree with you. In fact, the public effort to could the message opens an opportunity to discuss the core of Lewis’ intent. Using the serpent’s head as a springboard is always good policy, as well part of the joy in the walk.

Lewis likened the Christian’s life in a fallen world to a commando operation behind enemy lines. This is such an opportunity.

“He wasn’t in LOTR.”

He did a superlative job in ‘Rob Roy’. He is a magnificent actor, but a dismal logician. This is what Laura Ingraham would term a “Shut Up and Sing” moment.

He was very good in Rob Roy and other movies as well. I like him.

The actor said at a news conference last week that his character doesn't necessarily represent Christ.

OK, hold on. This doesn't say that the Aslan in the movie represents Mohammed. It says that the guy who does his voiceover is a typical hollywood jerk. But presumably he reads what the screenwriters gave him to read, and doesn't express his own stupid ideas in the movie.

So, we need to wait and see what the actual movie does, and what reliable reviewers say about it. I saw the earlier movies, and found them true to Lewis's books. Aslan dies and then comes back to life. Who else is that but Jesus?

So, wait and see what the movie has to say for itself, not what some dumb jerk chosen for the sound of his voice has to say at a news conference after the movie was made.

Is it because of what one person in the entire production said in one sentence?

ABCDisney News is running this story. Disney originally brought the Narnia franchise to the screen but is not the studio behind this latest effort.

Perhaps Disney would like to see this film boycotted.

FWIW, in a earlier thread, it was said that Liam’s comments were taken out of context.

I just thought I’d present some background as to why this may be “newsworthy” to a competing media company.

Reminds me of the “Captain America” movie-makers saying that Cap isn’t a “flag waver” anymore in their angsty movie.

I may still see “Dawn Treader,” however, if I come to believe that this “not necessarily Christian” comment is false, i.e., if the film appears to be true to its source (an obvious Christian allegory).

CS Lewis was a Christian apologist. They need to read “The Last Battle”. He makes it pretty clear.

Exaclty. Tash seems an awful lot like Allah, if you ask me.
