Feds Target School Bake Sales

On December 3, the lame-duck House passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, previously approved by the Senate. President Obama, doubtless preoccupied with such trivia as taxes, unemployment, Korea and China, has yet to sign it into law. A mere two hundred and twenty pages long, it has lots of provisions for allocation of funds, demonstration projects, and the like. Many may be worthwhile.

However, included in the legislation is a provision authorizing the secretary of Agriculture to regulate school fundraising bake sales to ensure that they are infrequent and that the goodies sold are nutritionally acceptable. Far from innocuous, that is yet another distasteful and unnecessary intrusion of the federal government into our daily lives.

The secretary is required to regulate school bake sales unless he chooses to grant special exemptions. The steps a school district would need to take to secure a special exemption will likely be sufficiently onerous that very few will be sought. At least some schools sponsor bake sales because they need the money; the costs of securing special exemptions could easily outweigh any funds raised.

Liberalism is inherently “infestivist” - it cannot stand ANY aspect of life to not be under its influence and control.

It has to do with the origins of the ideology - a Luciferian world. Their ideological “father” cannot stand the idea that anything that his Enemy would approve of would continue to function in “his” world.

Well thank goodness! The horror of Aunt Edna's fruitcake being sold at a bake sale is averted. I mean that fruit cake is heavy enough it could be classified as a WMD.

That “granting of exceptions” is where the leftists derive their power.

Unequal application of the law gives those with “discretion” nearly unlimited power to control people.

This is the point of 0bamacare.

When I was in school there were generally two types of club fund raisers. The first was the lame, overpriced wrapping paper or such. You might be able to get your mother or grandmother to buy a couple of rolls, but that was it. The other was the immediate candy sale. That was like selling crack to other students, especially if you had something tasty and difficult to get like the German Club's gummy bears (this was before you could just buy gummy food in every store). You just had to pop open your box and get $10 in sales before class. I guess in the future wrapping paper will be the only funding option for clubs.

They will start some program to only allow wrapping paper that has been tested for lead and figure out a way to get sales tax on the deal....

For track club funds, we sold Kathryn Beich candies, in the metal cans, had a little screw thing to take out a metal piece in order to open it. Katydids. YUM and those butter mints. Am I showing my age?

Banning bake sales in schools made me think of this:

After our local paper published six full-page articles in late November touting how effective the stimulus monies had been for our region, I wrote a letter to the editor attempting to represent the private-sector side of the issue. One of the points I tried to make is that accepting FEDERAL monies for programs and entities that used to be the provence of our city or the state, was the equivalent of having declared ourselves "victims" and moving back in with Mom and Dad.

Two days later, another front-page headline revealed that the local school system was going to be "investigated" for racial discrimination, by the federal government. The letter from the feds indicated that this was not as a result of a complaint, it was just something they felt was necessary in hundreds of school districts.

This was astounding for most in our city, because for 15 years now, the school system has been headed by a black man. Our enrollment here is 81% white.

I thought this was poetic justice, and helped back up my point that moving back in with Mom and Dad may have strings attached that no one wants.

The federal G nanny must stamp out “evil” wherever it lurks.

Do you think the G is gonna let us continue to cook in our own kitchens at home???? Or are we gonna have to show up at a G kitchen 3 times a day to get our meals???

That’s right - because every little victory for them is a HUGE loss for us; add them all up, and you have Fabian socialism’s “Death of a thousand cuts”.

This is what they do.

And we have NEVER responded by cutting THEM back and making them squirm - so they are emboldened at each stroke of the legislative pen. How many laws have WE passed, banning some socialist program or other - actively and vehemently opposing and showing THEM that their version of government is unacceptable to us?

Of course they’ll do this. Nothing has been done, at least since the 1950s and early 1960s, to actively stop them from pursuing their agenda. Back then we had government agencies to infiltrate and expose them, and identify them as the domestic enemies they are. Now? Nope.

since then lots of those same rinos have become content to be princes and as long as they have more 'rank' than the peasants, they go along to get along and keep their status quo...

they all hafta go, like you mentioned in the other thread, we need people 'called to serve', not these chumps lookin for an easy 'career'...
