PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton University students voted down a referendum by a pro-Palestine student group calling for the Ivy League university to expand its hummus offerings, the school's student government said Friday. It was a quirky campus vote about a chickpea dip that delved into international relations. The student group Princeton Committee for Palestine wanted university-run stores to sell an additional brand, arguing that Sabra, the only brand currently offered, supports human rights abuses. Sabra is based in Queens, N.Y., and Richmond, Va. Company officials say the firm makes donations only to charities in North America - and not to political causes.
The firm is owned by PepsiCo and the Israeli food conglomerate Strauss Group. Strauss contributes money to support troops in the Israeli Defense Forces...
Sarba officials say there have been attempts on other campuses to ban their hummus, but none has succeeded...The undergraduate student government said the referendum lost 1,014 to 699...
As media attention built about the vote, a pro-Israel student group Tigers for Israel fretted that the outside world might view the university, one of the nation's most prestigious, as a place hostile to that country.

Can’t you buy some plain Sabra, chop up the black olives and make it yourself? Sounds yummy.
Wait...is this hummus or Hamas that we’re talking about?
Dunno....I *guess* they just use ordinary black olives, not Special Magic Ones That Taste Way Better, and the hummus in plain uses the same flavoring agents same as the olive one....I’ll give that a try (but I still wish they hadn’t discontinued stocking that product. WHY does every consumer product I love get discontinued?!?! It’s like I’m the Grim Reaper of consumer goods-I like it, it fails. :-( Companies should hire me to see if I like something before they release it for sale-if I like it, don’t bother. )
Ha!
thanks for the laugh... I have had the same thoughts about the loss of the black olive Sabra hummus...
Back on topic, the Muslim Students Society at Princeton is pretty vicious (by Ivy League standards) and well organized, though they are mostly kept in check due to the various ethnic and religious groups on campus who have members who came directly from areas of the world under attack from real Muslim extremists.
That’s funny. Maybe we should try a discontinued-products thread. Vermont Country Store, are you listening? I’ll start it off with sprouted wheat bread.
The MSS just made me add Sabra hummus to the grocery list, even though I still have an unwrapped tub in the refrigerator. Probably not the response they were hoping to inspire.
Lemon Cooler cookies...Schweppes raspberry ginger ale..Minute Maid orange juice with 10% real juice...Alpine White candy bars...Bar None candy bars...Campbell’s Fisherman’s chowder...

Back in the day, I’d always eat my KFC right in front of the PETA freaks. Then I’d ask for a brochure... and they’d usually inquire about my KFC.
And I’d always tell ‘em that Mildred, or Bertha, or Grechten made one *FINE* meal. (the name of the chicken, of course)
Which would usually have them turn green at the gills.
I always tell them that I rarely eat meat, for health reasons (true since I keep it down to three times a day to avoid gaining weight), but that I make an exception every time I see a PETA demonstration and have KFC in honor of their protest.
