Obama will be speaking to the nation shortly to put the best spin on his caving in to the Republicans on extending the Bush tax rates. The cable networks are standing by to cover it live.
Here's a teaser from CNN on the deal:
President Barack Obama presented congressional Democratic leaders Monday with a proposed deal with Republicans that would extend Bush-era tax cuts for two years and unemployment benefits for 13 months while also setting the estate tax at 35% for two years on inheritances worth more than $5 million, a senior Democratic source told CNN.
The deal also includes a temporary 2% reduction in the payroll tax to replace Obama's "making work pay" tax credit from the 2009 economic stimulus package for lower-income Americans, the senior Democratic source said. As currently crafted, the deal would prohibit amendments by either party, according to the source, who spoke on condition of not being identified by name.

According to the senior Democratic source, Obama and Biden told the congressional Democrats that the proposed deal was the best they could expect.

No, we have a netflix movie to watch.
Surely to goodness the UI extension is for the original 26 weeks + 13 months. I can’t fathom it would be the current 99 weeks + 13 months. I just refuse to believe that.
The affirmative action, community organizing, narcissist-in-chief has always been allowed to force his way. This won’t sit well ... as we just witnessed.
Thanks ... and agree!
Oh boy!
“11. more and more it is like he is the HNIC.”
YIKES!!!
Two years will give Obama an issue to campaign on, namely, he will end the tax cut for the rich in when it expires at the end of 2012. The Reps will be saddled with making the tax cuts for wealthy permanent. The majority of Americans, according to the polls, have no problem in taxing the “rich” more.
I’m not sure how it works...but I think there are a lot of ways to avoid this by setting up trusts etc.. I really will never have to worry about it.
No, it’s not sitting well at all.
Crawdad just looked and posted this to me:
“11. more and more it is like he is the HNIC.” (Yikes)
Only the worker gets the reduction in payroll taxes, not the employer who will continue to still pay the 6.2% for SS.

Not really in charge of anything. Next play will come later and we will cave even more.

Incoming DU racist!
The whole thing is stupid. The outcome was quite predictable. For Obama to say he did anything to bring this about is an absurdity. He didn’t compromise. He didn’t have the power...And you know that if he had his way, he would have signed one of those Presidential “mandates”....and be done with it.
Yes, he is! Pubbies grab defeat out of the
jaws of victory (and principle), once again.

They just CAN’T STAND to really win!
It underscores how inept he is.
He resembled a two-bit football coach that just lost the division.
No - Sean Hannity.
Having been unemployed twice in the past four years (including one stint which lasted 5 months after my "benefits" ran out) I will say that I sympathize with those who genuinely can't find work, but I would bet the numbers are small compared to those who are popping a cork at the news that they will be able to sit on their butts for another year.
We just had a guy who worked for us for 3 days and QUIT, and then filed for unemployment. That’s the mentality of some out there. Free ride. Of course, we fought it and won, but he was hoping we would not and he would have hit the jackpot.
Believe it...99+56= 155 weeks of UE...
Thank’s...now everyone can head beck to the fishing hole for another year!
Unreal???????
He is totally unfot for the office he holds. It’s shameful.
