A just-released Pentagon study on Dont Ask Dont Tellcovered live on all cable netsfinds overturning DADT would not cause any longterm problems for the American military.
A strong majority (of American troops surveyed)more than two thirdsdo not object to gays and lesbians serving openly in the military, said Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who introduced the surveys results alonside Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
According to the studythe largest ever conductedlooked at the impact of changing the militarys policy on openly serving gays and lesbians on unit cohesiveness, military readiness, recruitment and retention.
The study found 70 percent of troops surveyed believed repealing the law would have mixed, positive, or no effect, while 30 percent predicted problems. Opposition to ending DADT was strongest among all-male combat troops, including Army and Marine units.

IOW, to the people for whom this decision will most directly impact, and who are most critical to America's national defense, this is a HORRIBLE decision.
Wow, that's shocking /s
Are Gates and Mullen closet FAGS?!
They’re political whores.
Probably not, but they are political animals. They are just carrying the bosses water, first and foremost.
Since when did the military resort to using democracy to make decisions?
They have to replace Pvt. Bradley Manning - in a classic gay fit over the loss of a boyfriend, stabs the country in the back.
These emotions are okay in a shop but not in a war.
I’d wager most of the Pentagon arm-chair warriors are D**k smokin, turd burglarin, butt pirates. Why else would they do this to the military? I cannot remark as to what I think should be done with these two morons, because I would get banned from FR.
Mullen is the first CJC to not wear the combat action ribbon (or the AF/Army equivalent). The guy has never seen a moment of combat. For me, this entirely explains his idiocy on the matter.
The marine and army generals who have spoke out strongly against this policy change, are ALL decorated combat veterans. What more needs to be said.
Am so damned sick of their talking points.
You control the content of the report by controlling who writes it. If Obama commissioned the report, did anyone think it would say anything different?
Homosexual rape in the military will just get worse.
If there are ANY risks, why take them?<>

I have no objections either as long as they have their own divisions, are issued muskets and are the first in and last out.
I caught a glimpse of the former Commander of the USS Cole on AC180 last night.
He made a very good point that when senior officers from the CJCS to the SecDef to other very senior officers essentially endorse the repeal of the current law, the message filters down the ranks that this is what the upper ranks want.
He also said that the muckymucks should not have prejudiced the survey by speaking out in favor of this measure.
So, my feeling is that this survey ultimately ends up lowballing the opposition to this measure, particularly in ground combat forces.
Has anyone considered that the pink uniforms will an easy target for the enemy?
I don’t believe it.

Did anyone believe there was even the slightest chance Mullen or Gates would allow a different conclusion?
FOX reports the number against 40-60% - big number
