In Greece earlier this month, Al Gore made a startling admission: "First-generation ethanol, I think, was a mistake." Unfortunately, Americans have Gore to thank for ethanol subsidies. In 1994, then-Vice President Gore ended a 50-50 tie in the Senate by voting in favor of an ethanol tax credit that added almost $5 billion to the federal deficit last year. And that number doesn't factor the many ways in which corn-based ethanol mandates drive up the price of food and livestock feed.
In sum, Gore demonstrated that politicians are lousy at figuring out which alternative fuels make the most sense. Now even enviros like Friends of the Earth have come to believe that "large-scale agro-fuels" are "ecologically unsustainable and inefficient."

Now we just have to get my moron congressmen from Iowa to stop supporting this boondoggle. The Republicans King and Grassley continue to defend this waste of money.
I drive 10 miles once every 2 weeks to fill up on non ethanol gas.
Maybe he sold his shares in ADM.
Maybe he sold his shares in ADM.
Stop burning food.
Pray for America
He's a wonder of ineptitude.
If he was a blind man-bear-pig, he wouldn't be able to find an acorn.
If he was a broken clock he wouldn't even be right once a day.
This says a lot about the people who continue to be duped by him and his phony Global Warming/Climate Change/Fiscally Responsible Democrat Influenced Temperature Alteration/Disruptification/Hot-Cold-bad-car Heating Sky Making/Anthropogenic Really Truly True Science Consensus Blarney.
Al Gore getting a law degree was a mistake. Al Gore being elected to public office was a mistake. The man is a moron.
“There is a movement in Washington to end Gore’s mistake. Republican Sens. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Jim DeMint of South Carolina have proposed ending the 45-cent-per-gallon subsidy on corn ethanol, which is set to expire on Dec. 31 unless Congress extends it.”
Ping. This is important folks. I urge you to call your senators and tell them to let the subsidy expire. Farmers would then divert their resources to food and feed production and the cost of everything from wheaties to meat will go down. It would have the added benefit of reducing the headlock Iowa has on the presidential selection process.
“Ethanol - As easy as taking corn from a baby.”
It looks like the subsidies will be cut. Finally, a smidgen of common sense returns.
In other good news, watching the deficit reduction commission - I almost jumoed out of my chair when I saw the proposed reduction of $300 million from the U.N.!!!!
Oh Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder how many times this asshat has to flush his Lo-Flo toilet to get an empty bowl.
How about ending the 45-cent-per-gallon subsidy on corn ethanol, which is set to expire on Dec. 31 unless Congress extends it.
Thank you for a mental image I could have lived happily without.
So we need to take a steady draw down, lower the subsidy and start reducing the requirement to add 15% ethanol to gas bring it back to 10% then 5%, then make it optional.
But you can eliminate the Mohair subsidy right away.
Shows how great America is - Gore is a billionaire moron.
The ethanol subsidy is worse than ...
In addition to the transportation and volatility issues, ethanol will add yet more blends of gasoline to the retail market. Last year, American refiners produced 45 different types of gasoline. Each type of gasoline needs specific tanks and pipes...
There’s a final point to be raised about ethanol: It contains only about two-thirds as much energy as gasoline...
