(AP) MILWAUKEE (AP) - A 100-year-old greeter at a Milwaukee Walmart was shoved by a customer after the centenarian tried to stop the woman to determine if she'd paid for items that were in the lower part of her shopping cart, police said Monday.

Greeter Lois Speelman fell down and went to a hospital after she was shoved on Sunday.

"I'm bruised a little, but I'm able to go back to work Thursday," Speelman told The Associated Press from her home on Monday.

“Doesn’t Wal-Mart import 70% 0f its goods from China?”

And this has WHAT to do with the subject?
Yes, you are, indeed, a rudeChild.

OMG...did you see this brain dead comment?

How many 100 year old women have to work in Canada, Germany, France, Spain, England, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, or Sweden?

Thanks for nothing, GOP.

sigh...

The Progressive scum just don’t have a cluse.

This Wal-Mart is located on the entitled Amish bus route, it used to be a nice neighborhood....

Well then, let me be the first to say it, "Hate crime, hate crime!"

It’s those darned black Amish that have become a real pain since they got that black Amish president elected. Seems like they all got an attitude.

You missed the comments on this thread from yesterday, but I don't blame you.

I'm just making fun of knee-jerk reactions, in general.

“Why can a 100 year old get a job, when there are a lot of 20-somethinings staying home and playing on the computer all day?”

Excellent question.

“Walmart is partly to blame for this. They know from past experience that there have been confrontations with irate customers at the exit door.”

Yes, but they have been isolated incidents, and Walmart has prided itself on hiring older citizens to be “greeters”.
The main reason is that older Americans still know civility, and how to be polite.
They are honored to be able to work, despite minimum wages.

Perhaps you would prefer a SEIU union thug with his billy-club.

Customer Shoves 100-year-old Wis. Walmart Greeter

A Greeter greets you when you come into the store. A security guard check you bags on the way out to insure your not a shoplifter.

Perhaps, Walmart should reconsider using 100 year old ladies as security guards.

". . . The scumbag who pushed her should be charged with felony battery."

Absolutely agree! However, knowing the usual "crowd" that visit Wally-World, it is highly unlikely that any one stepped forward to detain the perpatrator....probably didn't even bend to help the Greeter up off the floor.

So...Wally-World rolls merrily on...the perp gets away with felonious assault, the Greeter returns to work (at 100 years of age, mind you), and all's right with the world.

Or is it???

I don't know if "civility" is the main reason Wally World hires them, but it certainly is one of them.
They are also hired because they have a strong inbred "work ethic", arrive at work on time...work the assigned hours....don't much care about a little overtime now and then, respect customers, are polite (civil, if you will), and don't whine constantly about the workplace or work environment.

And for this, I say: Good on ya, Wally World!

No info about the shover.

In the link above all it said was the shover was arrested. Didn't see a name or photo. But then it also said, Milwaukee police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said the case has been referred to prosecutors for a potential aggravated battery charge.

They have to be kidding. How is shoving a 100 year old lady to the ground "potential" aggravated battery? No potential about it. Charge the thug and put her behind bars.

“Walmart shouldn’t have centenarians checking customer’s receipts as they leave the store.”

Thanks for being a faster typer than I am. I didn’t feel like being flamed this morning anyway.

A similiar incident happened to us the other day at Walmart. We had paid for our crap and upon exiting an old gal shuffled over and asked to “see our receipt”. We hadn’t even make it to the scanner yet!

I asked her “why” and she told me it was because we had an item on the bottom tray of the cart. I asked why they have carts with the bottom part if we can’t use it? She actually copped an attitude with me and demanded me to show her our receipt. In a hurry and not wanting to make a scene we bleated like the other sheeple and complied.

You’re right, they should hire a security officer to be at the door and not 100 year old woman.

Thanks for your support.

However, not ALL Walmart shoppers are low-life. I would have dropped the scumbag in a heartbeat and then helped the old gal up.

“And for this, I say: Good on ya, Wally World! “

I have always had a good respect for Walmart and their model.
I remember the first Walmart in the Memphis area, and in the 70s I was a manufacture’s rep with Arkansas as part of my territory, and with Walmart headquarters in Bentonville, as a client. They were big then, but still a fraction of what they are today.
I remember the days when they would not open a store in a large city.

I know that there are plenty of snotty nosed FReepers that detest Walmart, but you would be hard pressed to find a better business model that Sam Walton put together.

Mrs. Speelman is obviously an amazing, admirable woman. What an attitude! Even in the midst of a story about the actions of an uncivilized brute, there’s real hope: Americans can and will do for themselves, with pride and dignity.

Some people need to have manners and respect beaten into them.

We used to call it a dark alley attitude adjustment. It could work wonders, too.

I recall another thread where I referred to “the Amish” and was told that, “though I cleverly didn’t say black”, that was about the most racist comment they’d ever seen on FR.

Everyone needs to remember, especially when they get called “racist” for pointing out bad behaviors in distinct demographics,

that “racism” is defined by the belief that GENETICS determine inferiority or superiority of a group of people.

What we are referring to in these comments are CULTURAL TENDENCIES, not genetic tendencies.

Now, people can call us “culturists” all they want,
as long as they are willing to back up their accusation with a defense that all cultures everywhere, every time in history, are equally valid (including Nazi Germany), and that none are inferior or superior.

Game, set, and match on the “race card”.

This is more of a problem with the CHECKOUT people than anything else.

They need to be trained better to LOOK IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CART for more merchandise to run through the checkout.

In basic training, recruits whose poor manners caused inconvenience to others were effectively rehabilitated by a therapy of bars of soap contained in the toes of socks. Robustly applied, no repeat application was ever required.

This Wal-Mart is located on the entitled Amish bus route, it used to be a nice neighborhood but that was 25 years ago....

Ah, so we're talking about the Entitled Amish and not the Middle-Eastern Amish... sometimes we use the the term so loosely that it needs clarification.
