(AP) MILWAUKEE (AP) - A 100-year-old greeter at a Milwaukee Walmart was shoved by a customer after the centenarian tried to stop the woman to determine if she'd paid for items that were in the lower part of her shopping cart, police said Monday.

Greeter Lois Speelman fell down and went to a hospital after she was shoved on Sunday.

"I'm bruised a little, but I'm able to go back to work Thursday," Speelman told The Associated Press from her home on Monday.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Speelman has been twice widowed and started greeting at the store when she was 90. She retired at 95, but came back at 97 after her only living son died and continues to work an average of 34 hours a week.

Sounds a lot like my grandma. She tried to "retire" several times in her late 80's but "those young girls just couldn't catch on ". God Bless this woman - and should she have the good fortune to be around next year I hope she takes "Black Friday" as a holiday.

Some people need to have manners and respect beaten into them.

No info about the shover. I wonder if it was one of those moody, entitled Amish. Does anyone know the neighborhood this Wal-Mart was located in?

This store is one of the closest to Milwaukee’s central city. It’s not in a bad area, but is very convenient to some bad areas, so it gets some rough customers.

Walmart shouldn’t have centenarians checking customer’s receipts as they leave the store. If they have a policy of checking receipts, the should have security people handle it.

My mentally challenged cousin has worked at Walmart for decades and will retire in a few with a nice pension. No one trashes Walmart around me.

I was in our local Walmart in the Deli Dept., there were 3 other customers waiting along with me and a woman and her daughter show up near the hot food. The daughter got some chicken fingers or something and asked that it be heated up for her. The deli lady said after you pay for it, I will be happy to heat it for you. The little biotch threw the bag back at the lady behind the counter. Needless to say, I became unglued, once I started so did the other women waiting with me.....the girl and her mother left the store.

Why can a 100 year old get a job, when there are a lot of 20-somethinings staying home and playing on the computer all day?

If I had witnessed this, the perp would be in the hospital and I would be in jail.

“Why can a 100 year old get a job, when there are a lot of 20-somethinings staying home and playing on the computer all day?”

Maybe because a 100-year-old has a work ethic, and 20-somethings... uh... WANT to stay home and play on the computer? Just a guess; I could be wrong. How many 20-year-old Walmart Greeters have you seen?

A fairly large percentage of the prices we pay at the store go just to cover losses through theft. Glad the lady behind the counter caught on to what was going on there—at least, on that occasion, a theft was averted.

Anyone pushing a 100 year old person to the ground should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

"If they have a policy of checking receipts, the should have security people handle it."

If they do have that policy notice should be clearly posted when entering the store.  I, personally, hate being treated like a criminal when I leave Wal-Mart.  I talked to the manager about it and he admitted that checking the receipt was due to shoplifting.  They don't check "my receipt" anymore.

Walmart is partly to blame for this. They know from past experience that there have been confrontations with irate customers at the exit door.

Maybe Walmart should re-think their policy of having old ladies accuse people of being thieves. Just a thought.

The scumbag who pushed her should be charged with felony battery.
