The second-ranking House Democrat said Monday that President Obama’s move to freeze the pay of civilian federal employees should also be extended to military personnel.
Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said including the military would have increased savings and add “an element of fairness." He made the comments in a statement about he president’s announcement of a two-year pay freeze.
“While I appreciate that the president reduced the length of his proposed pay freeze from three to two years,” Hoyer said in a statement, “it would have produced significantly more savings had that sacrifice been shared between federal civilian and military personnel — with a strong exception for the members of our military and civilian employees risking their lives on our behalf in Afghanistan, Iraq, and anywhere else they are serving in harm's way.”

What a fool. Congress needs a major pay and “perks” cut. . .The men and women in uniform (both past and present) need a pay raise.
Next he’ll be advocting for the unionization of military personnel.

I have utmost respect for our military but a pay freeze is required for all or most military personnel. No part of government can be spared from budget reductions. I am not comparing military service to government work. I am indicating that we are broke and better start acting like it if we want to avoid an economic collapse. Military spending reductions will be necessary although hopefully less than other areas of non core government services.
Freeze the pay of Congress!
We use lots of outsourcing for military work from contractors performing dangerous functions abroad to lots of support work in this country. Overall, outsourcing has provided large benefits especially in workforce flexibility. Of course, there are limits to outsourcing for the military. There is probably room for additional outsourcing especially in roles now performed by non military government workers.

I work for a privately held small business. I have taken a 60% pay cut in benefits and salary over the last three years.
My CEO stopped taking a pay check in Oct. 2008. I’m tired of everyone up in arms over “pay freezes” when at each recession I’ve taken a minimum of a 10% pay cut at the first signs of the slow down.
Cut the pay for senators, congressman, staff, slash their pensions and medical benefits. Let’s see them take the “haircut” first and then tell me all my with holdings were just a joke.
That was one by the Democrats.
They have no couth and yet many of the people they hurt keep voting them back in.
The big bucks go for CONTRACTS and Social Security.
What you do when times get tough is spread the burden, and hopefully round up all the Democrat politicians and impale them (in some manner) to let our enemies know WE KNOW WHO'S THE REAL ENEMY.
I could handle the top brass taking a pay freeze, but no way should the soldiers on the ground take one.
