I have utmost respect for our military but a pay freeze is required for all or most military personnel. No part of government can be spared from budget reductions. I am not comparing military service to government work. I am indicating that we are broke and better start acting like it if we want to avoid an economic collapse. Military spending reductions will be necessary although hopefully less than other areas of non core government services.

Here's an idea, why don't we outsource the military altogether? /S

Nonsense. One of our smallest expenses is employee pay, whether uniformed or civilian.

The big bucks go for CONTRACTS and Social Security.

What you do when times get tough is spread the burden, and hopefully round up all the Democrat politicians and impale them (in some manner) to let our enemies know WE KNOW WHO'S THE REAL ENEMY.

Respectfully, but after what our government has spent in the last few years, what makes you believe that any of those leftist clowns have the slightest interest in cutting spending?

Seriously, are the dems REALLY trying to save money? Is a proposed military pay freeze really supposed to be "fair", or is it just supposed to be a poison pill for other proposed Federal pay freezes?

I mean, come on. How much money are we pissing away on endless so-called "unemployment" benefits? How much did we give to ACORN? Yeah, but controlling spending begins with freezing military pay and screwing with military health plans and retirement.

I agree. I work for a small privately held company. The employees at my company have not had a pay increase in 5 years. When I lost my job a year ago I took a new job for less than 1/2 the pay I was making. We have to put our nation back together and every citizen must bear some of the burden. The minute we make one exception, there will be other clamoring.

I also feel social security benefits should be cut by 5% across the board and the COLA eliminated. Time to get serious about making real cuts in spending.

With respect to the military, we can no longer afford to be the world’s policeman. Bring the troops home from around the world and let the rest of the world deal with its own problems. Station troops on our southern border to stop the invasion of illegals as well as the drug trafficking and gang crime.

No cuts for illegals and muslims. They deserve every benefit and freebie they get. They really need more. (s)

Easiest way to save money regarding the military would be to stop fighting wars. The entire war budget would then be saved and the equipment replacement/repair budget drops dramatically.

Not to mention the drop in transportation expenses, what with much less deployments.

But you’d keep that going and then cut pay on the guys doing the fighting? Geez...

Wrong!!! Yes we are broke but lets see, how about we start with Congress? We can start cutting their pay and bennies, let them live in barracks as well. Then we can move on to cutting all bennies to illegals. After that we can quit importing poverty from 3rd world illiterate countries and quit giving bennies to their families that follow through chain migration...........if you can’t feed yourself, I would suggest you stay home and don’t travel across the world for me to take care of you!!! How about we get rid of these stupid entities the the DOE, DHS, Dept. of Energy, etc.? And as for federal worker pay freezes, they should be cut in half first!!!

And last but not least, the military tightens their belt and makes the sacrifice the minute they raise their hand and swear to serve our country.

How about—NO.

How many millionaires and above are in Congress right now? The pay they receive is chump change to them—I would LOVE to see Boehner lead the way in donating his ENTIRE Congressional salary to a military fund (if HolyO and those anti-American idiots force all this through)—what happened last week? John Kerry rented out everything somewhere for himself? (Saw the story in passing)—wonder how many democrats who pay lip service “Oh, I’m against the war but I support the troops!!” BS would jump on THAT bandwagon if the Republicans in the House and Senate did such a thing???

Yes, I’m dreaming again. Someone slap me and wake me up from this nightmare. :*(

Wow, Mr. businessprofessor. You’re just too smart for words. The military is the best bargain in government. And the people who volunteer to serve are even willing to give up their lives in defense of your right to say stupid things.
