First Lady: 'Have pie! Eat the dressing!' By Elise Viebeck - 11/27/10 11:36 AM ET
First Lady Michelle Obama encouraged American families to enjoy their food over the holiday weekend and not to worry about "how much you eat."
Obama, who is spearheading a nationwide campaign against childhood obesity, explained to 20/20 host Barbara Walters that "this is the time" to let go a bit.
"I would urge people to use this time to come together, as families and community, and don't take it for granted. Be kind to each other and laugh a little bit. And don't worry about how much you eat. Just enjoy it," she said.
She later added, "Have pie! Eat the dressing!" when prompted to explain her comment.
The wide-ranging interview also included a discussion of Obama's campaign, dubbed "Let's Move," which focuses on healthy eating among schoolchildren.
"You know, our goal is ambitious but simple," Obama said. "We want to end the epidemic in a generation. We're really aiming at children born today, because our goal is that if we begin shaping habits and shaping the conversation and providing information to parents and teachers and engaging all of our leaders in this conversation, that we'll change the habits of young people today."
The First Lady has faced criticism from Republicans, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, for advocating what they characterize as government-overreach.
"A government has a role to play in this issue, as does every other sector," Obama rebutted in the interview. "And we reached out and engaged the grocery store manufacturers and the restaurateurs. We brought in the mayors and governors of states and towns. We're calling on faith-based community. There is no constituency that should be excluded from this call to action for our kids."
Both Obama and President Obama commented in another portion of the discussion that they both exercise to relieve stress.
The interview aired Friday.
The First Lady of the United States has set a new standard for being an obnoxious overbearing cow. We can f’ing decide what we are going to eat without your help or permission you fat bitch!
>>Her younger daughter is decidedly overweight.<<
No, she isn’t. She is nine and about to hit puberty.
You are falling for the crap they are passing out.
I looked at Christmas pictures of my older daughter. In 2009, she looked just like that little girl. Today she is 5’7” and slim.
Cut the kid a break.
Really? It's okay?
Oh, thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Great and Wonderful Mo.
That reminds me. There is still pumpkin roll in the fridge......
Mooch-elle is proclaiming social instruction, and capping it with a permission slip to eat desert.
Even (ugh) Hillary Rodham is not this much of an imperious overlord.
.
Ohh, I didn’t get any pumpkin roll this year. Boo hoo!
Shuddup, Shelly. You nauseate me.
I don’t know what makes me laugh more: the fact that Michelle thinks anyone is paying attention to what she says about diet; or that there are some idiots out there who are so lost that they actually care what she says about what to eat.
Mind your own business — indeed we will, Mrs. O. Maybe she will have us checking in daily — oh, and she could offer penance and forgiveness when we transgress.
Wait a minute — she is married to a man who thinks he is god (little g) and she thinks she is, too.
Mr. and Mrs. god, well ain’t that just something.
Please....This is all about the coming fat tax and it’s going to be FAT!!!
Princess Letizia of Spain? Probably not...
First lady Carla Bruni of France? doubtful...
First Wookie of USA? Aaaaarrrrr!
The best we can do is IGNORE, and find all sorts of creative ways to always have the t.v. remote within ready reach. It’s amazing how fast the blessed quiet descends, and they are out of your conscious life with a click of the button. - I don’t mind them eating junk if they want to; but we aren’t stupid enough that common sense eludes us. They better enjoy it while it lasts. Who ever springs for their outlandish speaking fees after he leaves office deserve their money soon parting.
Who the F cares what she says!!! She needs to go on another vacation - for at least 2 years!
“After the Obamas are gone I will never be able to use the word community again.”
The libs find words to give people warm fuzzies, but they’re scary. Like Hillary’s “village”. Notice how they NEVER focus on independence, personal responsibility, etc... One big socialistic community/village.
NONE of this did I (or anyone else above the age of two) need to hear from BLOAT-US (Big Lady of all the United States). I think we all know how to do this without her giving us advice.
Buzz off, SuperFly! Go eat your lead-laced garden veggies.
“That reminds me. There is still pumpkin roll in the fridge......”
LMAO
Good point,
All the words and concepts they use are collective and devoid of moral imperitives or self determnism.
Scary what the language they use says about them.
The word “liberal” if it meant what it did four generations ago, I would be able to easily agree or sign on. However, even the word “liberal” is a perversion of what it once meant. The meaning of this word today has a secular, hedonistic and socialist meaning, when in reality it once meant what today is close to the libertarian message. The left grabs a hold of ideas or a message and then twists them, exploits them and pushes these to the point of absurdity, making these words cause a gag reflex in most people after they are finished. Words like: liberal, village, community, progressive, paradigm......all belong to the list of words they have used and turned into some disgusting expression that leaves a sour taste in ones mouth if one accidentally uses them. Think about the concept of a phrase like “open minded.” Can you really use that without thinking that the only time it’s used is to tell someone to accept something at face value and discard all logic and reason or practical application? What about the use of the phrase “close minded?” What does it really mean? It means that those with an opposing view point not accepted at that point in time need to shut up. It’s a veiled threat in a social context that states that opposing viewpoints are not accepted. Both of these terms have become oxymoron’s and it’s their perversion within the vernacular of the liberal which has caused this. The one talking about the close minded is the close minded, and the one asking for people to one or free their mind is asking people to not think and accept gibberish based on ideology.
I really believe that one could write a fairly lengthy paper on the abuse of the English language in this respect.
