An Asian gang of 'sexual predators' cruised city streets for girls as young as 12 - usually white - who were then plied with drink and drugs and raped or abused.

Up to 100 ‘vulnerable’ girls may have been groomed, abused or supplied cocaine by married fathers Abid ­Saddique and Mohammed Liaqat, and their friends.

A court heard the pair used Liaqat’s BMW saloon to trawl for victims, pulling up alongside girls outside shops or schools and chatting them up before a ‘campaign of calls and texts’ to groom them.

They are Pakistani. Pakistan is in Asia, therefore, they are Asian.

You have to think of the language from a British perspective. Britain’s primary holding in Asia was India, which encompassed both India and what is now Pakistan and Bangladesh. The vast majority of immigrants from the Asian continent are from Britain’s former Indian holdings, therefore to British, Asian means Indian and Pakistani.

Asian in Britain actually has two meanings.

‘South Asian’ means Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Goans. IE those from ‘the Indian subcontinent’.

Asian without the south prefix means oriental/Far Eastern races ie Hong Kong Chinese, Thais, Koreans, Japanese etc.

The one US meaning that somewhat mystifies us here is that you regard Pakistanis as Middle Eastern.

Having worked in corrections for the last 20 years, I have seen (and lived with) a goodly number of these bozos. These predators are generally quite crafty with an elaborate and well thought-out game plan for identifying and grooming their targets. They, or one of their cohorts has a good rapport with children and can easily make them feel at ease. In this particular situation, it sounds like there was a rapport level backed up by opportunistic predators, and a final level of street thugs that would use anyone as a human Kleenex.

The victims are usually girls from troubled homes, are possessed of a poor self-image, with no positively influential male in their life. The victims are likely unaware that they are starved for male attention/daddy's love given their young age, but to the savvy 'rapport' predator that hunger is advertised by the victim's carriage, demeanor, and even dress.

The grooming process is gradual and conducted in a nonthreatening manner. To the victim it feels like someone who is very nice and interesting has taken a personal interest in their problems, life, and dreams. Gradually, that interest is held hostage against their acquiescence to increasingly intrusive erasures of 'lines in the sand'. Sometimes the predator may escalate to the point of threatening family members or pets to ensure silence, but the ideal objective is to conduct themselves discretely. The idea of a stranger walking around with a pocket full of candy targeting random children is largely an urban myth, though disorganized criminals may emerge in any class of crime. The career of a disorganized criminal in that particular venue could probably be measured in days, if not hours.

Your instincts are correct that the parents are the primary line of defense against this type of predator but the fact is that most people don't know what the danger is and are therefore ill equipped to devise a strategy against it. It might feel bad to do so, but advising children to report to you any adult who takes an interest in them is the best defense. The grooming process takes days and weeks to accomplish. If you are alerted at the beginning then you can intervene to protect them.

Still, “others” have been there before ~ e.g. Welsh Grenadiers ~ spreading Celtic genes. Red hair, uncommon in India 500 years ago, is now, if not common, quite ordinary.

Sitting here in the largest Afghan settlement outside of the Old World I've had a chance to see what they look like. The Korean appearing Afghans could disappear among the Koreans over in Annandale, and do so regularly.

The guys with the blue eyes can easily pass for Methodists. The guys with the mesuzah on the door frames look as Jewish as the fellas at the several synagogues around here.

Pakistan is as mixed, plus there are millions of people there who are descendants of Arab invaders. India proper is even more mixed.

Was reading a DNA report several months ago that was rather startling. It seems that they've done thousands of DNA tests on people in India. They discovered that no matter where those people live, or what they look like ALL of them have identifiably Persian genes. They also have genes that are identical to those of the Andaman islanders.

The "variations" have arisen in the resident populations subsequent to the arrival of the original populations.

The history of India, and Pakistan, is one of repeated invasions by Turcic speaking peoples who come down West of the Himalayas, and sometimes by Turcic speaking peoples who ride in from the East (the Sakha/Yakuts for instance).

The genetic base appears to have been unmoved by those invasions.
