The point is EPA & making a Federal Law vs States Rights.

NYS already limits lead sinkers. Birds won't eat bigger sinkers and I believe it's the split shots that are illegal.

Not just that, but any legit practice shooting range (shotgun, rifle, or pistol)I have been to for the sake of practice shooting does a thorough job of recycling copper shells and also digging out the lead rounds, thereby not giving lead a chance to dissolve or build up in the soil, or building materials, depending on the range. As for hunting, I am sorry, but people shoot to hit, and I doubt many guys miss with enough rounds to seriously put high lead concentrations in the soil. Hunting rounds fall in sparse locations too, taking a great deal from the argument that hunting causes it.

The worst problem we ever had with lead was lead in the air from leaded gasoline, but airborne lead has since disappeared since we ceased using lead in gasoline. It was really with the Clean Air Act that the purpose of the EPA was served, looks like keeping a checkup on the six main pollutants wasn’t enough for them.

Actually the EPA refused to regulate ammo, stating that it neither has the authority NOR IS IT SEEKING the authority to regulate lead ammo.

These ecofacists are trying to get a judge to order the EPA to regulate lead in ammo and fishing tackle.
